So, which area has the most disrespectful people in the East..you know the ones...eat at a table and leave a total mess...I guess like they think they're at home or something.

Also on the same subject, who's got the best staff?

Hunter hasd got some great people. They were asking if they could cleanip for me...before we were finished...no it was't crowded.

I gotta go with Shawnee, PA

The owner - Orville Slutsky can be seen cleaning tables from time to time...

He runs a tight ship...

on the bad side, Killington, hands down........

on the good, the people at Wildcat are pretty good, but I've never been anywhere that I've been amazed at how great the staff is.

speaking of wildcat, watching some of the locals in the base lodge there is so funny. Their is this one guy who is there every day i was this year and i never saw him ever skiing. Fist he sits down at 11:00 with a bear and fryed chicken. After a while his friends get ready to go and he acts like his getting ready too. Then on the way out he see another group of friends, and sits down and has another beer and more food. It looks like this goes on the whole day, and on average he probably get like 2 runs

And ya wildcat does seem pretty clean, there are a whole lotta people who pretty much sit in that lodge the whole day, and have like a giant family pic nic but they always seem to pick everything up

Worst lodge - Wachusett, any weekend or any weekday after 3PM. Hands down. Nothing else comes close. Period. :x

Best lodge - the new lodge at Crotched is huge, open and full of extremely nice people. The beers are cheap, the burgers are good, and the rental area is the largest, cleanest and most-efficient I've ever seen. And on a packed Saturday, everyone still had a smile on their face. :D

I agree that Crotched has the cleanest lodge and the most room. The tables are constantly being cleaned up.

Now that I think of it, Berkshire East has an employee or two cleaning tables as well.

My peeve is when a group "claims" a table for they entire day and saves room for five or ten people even one there's only one mom there except for maybe 15% of the day when the others are taking breaks or eating lunch.

Oh, and that'd be Wa.

I try not to spend enough time in the lodge to notice.
Honestly, I can't say that I've noticed pigs at ski lodges any more than I see them everywhere else, too.

Worst - Jiminy Peak any night school ski clubs are there. I know kids make a mess, but staff there doesn't even try to put a dent in it.

Best - you'd be hard pressed to find cleaner lodges then at Copper Mt.

WF - lodges are not fancy, but kept very clean.

Worst lodges in terms of cleanliness and crowds: Killington/Pico. Sugarbush's Gatehouse Lodge is hands down the absolute worst though...water, mud, crowds, rude folks, too stuffy, etc, etc.

Best/friendliest: Pats Peak has quite a nice pair of lodges. They can get busy, but folks are fairly friendly.

ANY Feeder Hill

ANY feeder hill, especially those with after-school programs catering to high schoolers. Fond memories of dumped hot chocolate on the chairs & tables, stacks of half-empty bottles on the tables, jelly donuts on the floor.

I am exactly the same way....why bother? I bring some "snacks" and water on my back, so i'm good...more skiing that way..i'll get all sidetracked by beer in a lodge...I save that for Apres...;)

Oh, and that'd be Wa.

I sit down at those tables anyway...
I tell them - "when your friends come - I'll leave"

There's really nothing they can do about it...

To be honest, since we boot up in the lodge...always...I find the farthest location (meaning the longest walk) and we make camp there...boot bags stored away...along with the brown bag lunch...make sure to hit the head before booting up...and why is it always in the basement? So we usually don't have any problems.

Went on a weekend ski trip with some buddies to stratton once, and they weren't of that mindset.

We sat as close to the door as possible. What a Zoo.

I don't know what you think of Stratton, but if you put a dress on a pig, it's still a pig.

I skiied there MANY years ago, and it had a totally different feel. I got a Stratton sticker on my box, but unless I'm given tickets, I'm not skiiing there again.

That's the way to do it... :)

Most of the time I place gear in the cubbies, but when I can't, it goes under the table of the day, out of the way of anyone trying to have a seat. If I do have to place my stuff near a table, I have no problem if someone trying to get a seat has to move it a bit.

Also, if there are empty seats at the table we're sitting at and someone else wants to sit down, no problem by me.

Besides, unless you're done for the day, isn't the whole objective to be in the lodge for as little time as possible?

Yup, BUT The point of the thread, is when you do want to come in for a breather/lunch/whatever, and come back to base camp that is a total pig sty, I mean, it just ain't right, and it just ain't the kids either...

And WHY do the keep the damn lodges so warm?

The base lodge at Bretton woods was quite clean when we visited, and the staff came around passing out free hot apple cider. That was the first time in 23 years of skiing that I recieved anything free to eat/drink in a base lodge.

The base lodge at Jackson Gore was VERY well maintained and the food was also suprisingly good.
The staff was constantly cleaning the tables and the carpet, even during peak breakfast and lunch hours.

Belleayre would be my most unpleasant experience, not to blame the ski area facilities, but I have fault with the obnoxious people that claim whole tables for themselves/family all day long.

Nope, it's just not right...

Maybe if more lodges followed Crotched's policies (and had a LOT more storage space so that peoples' stuff could be placed out of the way) then the problems would be significantly reduced.

Of course, that will also require more courtesy on the customers' part, which may be a bit tough. :x
