That is hard-core.

Yea, I'm probably just spoiled by too many sunny Colorado days and too many Utah powder days.

Can't say that I had too many memorable ski days this year.
Only got in about 15 days this year and no powder days.

Hmmmm? Doesn't sound like it. Try and get out more this year will ya. Skiing is alot of fun.

I remember you from the RSN forums. You're the world's biggest Jay Peak fan. :) I gotta get over there this season.

No, not too many powder days last year. Was out in Utah for a week in March and it was about the only week of the season where there was not a cloud in the sky.

After several 75+ day ski seasons in Colorado, I've seen my share of powder and bluebird skys. Like I mentioned, it's very hard to ski at places like Iceface after that type of skiing experience. Though, I suppose skiing Iceface makes skiing a mountain with any natural snowfall and above zero temperatures that much more enjoyable.

All right Buckeye Skier 1330, you one hardcore Mid-West skier. Rain and fog and you're still lovin it. NICE :D

When your local skiing is comprised of 300 vert molehills you have to make the most of it when you do get to good ski country.

 We were all pretty passionate about our favorite area if I remember! I took the bait from a couple of the trolls in that forum. I've learned since the best response to a troll is none at all. It's good to see some familiar usernames in this forum from the old RSN days. The RSN MWV forum is still up!

Huh! HMMMMM.....I've e-maild RSN to ask about Wachusett's forum. No response. :<

Anyway, after reading all these pro/con posts...I must say I've had the good fortune to hit Cannon on a not-too-bad day...and Wildcat on a fabulous day. Both places had me slightly intimidated due tot heir reputations for tough conditions. I resolved that on the first run each time.

It's good to see advocates for home-town favorite mountains. Sure they may be on the "kool-aid", but it's skiing kool-aid and that can't be bad.

White Face...on my list.

It seems few mountains in the North East bring such a polarized views as White Face.

Sorry - been away - but I'd like to add...

Polarized views just make me more interested in a mountain...

This winter I'm going to go to Cannon - I met a patroller thats going to show me around... I told him I was super curious cause I hear so many people complain about it sucking and so many people that say it's the shizzle...

My own home mountain(Hunter) has extremely polarized views.. But anyone that I respect as a good skier/rider loves the place... As do I obviously - cause I live there...

Polarized views add to the whole thing...

I agree here. All these responses about how Whiteface sucks makes me want to ski it more. Someday. It definitely looks like some radical terrain. My first visit to Sugarloaf last year was with some of the worst spring skiing conditions I've ever experienced - slush, dirt, ice, rocks, mud, grass...I still fell in love with the place.

Hunter is a no-joke mountain. I wish it was closer as I'd happily ski there more often than any of the Berkshire areas.

And how can you beat the town?

I'll see yall at the Laughing Loon

And don't forget the Cloudspin Lounge at the base...

I gotta take the family there this winter...I've been dying to get a skate in on the olympic oval

From North Jersey it's 5 1/2 hours...a nice short drive....

And hey, if you want a hint...try Gore...gotta be the #1 underated mountain in the East

Whiteface is extreme...

Whiteface has been my favorite mountain since I first skied it several years ago. In about 20 trips over the past 5 years, I can tell you that every experience there is completely unique. I've had some amazing powder days and corn harvests there. I've also had some extremely challenging icy days there as well (on one trip, my experienced friend had to get roped out of the woods after a small spill because it was all blue ice everywhere).

If you want a posh, service-based, cookie-cutter experience, you won't find it here. This place is as rugged and rough and unpredictable as the Adirondack mountains can and should be. If you want to be challenged with varying alpine conditions, then this place is great. Regardless how great/horrible the conditions are, I've always found a great sense of reward and accomplishment in surviving a day at Whiteface.

To be honest, I can't determine which outting was better -- the day the forecast called for flurries and 6 inches were dumped between 10 am and noon, leaving first-tracks on every run, or the day the entire mountain demanded perfect edging technique because of a nasty ice storm that hit the night before.

Well said adk. What type of terrain do you like to ski and what are your favorite trails at WF?

HPD did you find yourself a new best friends???

That would be nice. Maybe if Skibunny would come back the 3 of us could start a Whiteface thread.

Hmmmmm.....Skibunny. Just the name turns my loose granular to hard pack.

So I’d like to talk about my home field a little, what’s wrong wit dat? All youse Southern folk are always talking about Wa-wa, Sunapee and the like. I get reduced to talking to all these Hunta knuckleheads. Gee-wiz.
