Just got this Email from Chris:

Greg,
Anyone with an interest can contact me or Jarrod moss( jarrod@skisundown.com ). Jarrod is the terrain features manager as well as responsible for maintaining the bumps and organizing events.

I would like to do something after Prep School racing is over. Down the steep of Temptor and continued about a third of the way down Exhibition would be a good spot. It has the best fall line for bumps and the event could be seen from the lodge/deck, lift, and base area.

Thanks Chris

Temptor would be awesome for a bump comp!!! Let's push for this, people. Email Chris and Jarrod!

Jarrod: jarrod@skisundown.com
Chris: chris@skisundown.com

This would be the only bump comp in SNE that I know of!

That would be sweet. I surely wouldn't compete but I would definitely show up to cheer the bumpers on.

Why the hell not? You'll have a good part of the season to practice. I know for me, if I knew a competition was coming up, I'd be skiing like hell to try and be at least mildly competitive. Just sent this to Jarrod. I did my part:

Hi Jarrod,

My name is Greg Blasko, Founder of AlpineZone.com, an online Northeast skiing community. Sundown has a huge following at AlpineZone.com and a group of us meet to ski there almost weekly on Wednesday nights. As many of us are advanced skiers, the main draw for us are the bumps on Nor'easter and Exhibition. Personally, I skied the Nor'easter bumps about 175 runs last season. I'm a huge advocate for seeded moguls as they offer something interesting for local advanced skiers. I've posted many trip reports in our forums ( http://forums.alpinezone.com/ ) regarding our bump outings. I've also put together a few videos of AlpineZone members on the bumps:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=nAIf-rBbvtE
http://youtube.com/watch?v=T8eMpRSRP2c
http://youtube.com/watch?v=g075nqlCgcQ

I even put together a Nor'easter tribute vid:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=e_w8cBQ-IdA

As you can see, I'm a little whacky about having a good bump run so close to home. I've worked with Chris Sullivan on the AlpineZone Ski Area Challenge and the bumps are a big part of them:

http://skiing.alpinezone.com/articles/challenge/2007/response.htm?resort=sundown
http://skiing.alpinezone.com/articles/challenge/2006/response.htm?resort=sundown

One of the items that came up this season was whether you would be willing to seed a course for a mogul competition this season. As far as I know, this would be the only one of its kind in all of Southern New England and I'm sure it would be pretty popular. Chris mentioned Temptor as a candidate which I think would be great. I would be willing to help in any way possible to promote such an event and I'm sure you would have at least a few folks from the AlpineZone community participating.

Finally, you should stop by our forums - http://forums.alpinezone.com/ - great community and again a decent sized group of Sundown supporters. Keep up the great work on the bumps!

Regards,

Greg Blasko, Founder

I would love to see a mogul competition come to pass. I offered up any help I can to them to promote it. If you're into it, Email the mountain and show your support for a SNE bump comp! customerservice@skisundown.com

I'm gonna type something up right now. I'd be down for that in a heartbeat.

this is what i sent them.

Hello Chris,

My name is Patrick ****. I post on Alpinezone.com as 2knees. I saw the responses from the ski area challenge in regards to a bump contest. I would absolutely love to see this happen and would compete myself. You guys have done a great job with the nor'easter bumps the last two years and this would be a great compliment to that. You have created a nice little niche for skiers looking for something more than is typically offered in Ct. Great job.

Sincerly
Patrick

did he give any indication as to what would qualify as enough interest?

I replied to ask him that. I also went ahead and posted a note about this on K-zone, Epic and MogulSkiing.net...

Not sure if they'd include kickers or not, but if so, you're right. Gotta work on the old school steeze:

Saturday March 11th

great screen name btw, and you did an awesome job on those bumps the last two years.

Thanks.

No kidding. Jim commented that we seem to over hype Sundown, but this is an example of why I still think they rule it. They are somehow able to offer something for everybody, despite having only very limited terrain. Sure, it's a tiny little hill, but I wish more mountains would really consider feedback from their guests like this (even those of us outside of the general skiing majority). I really like this little hill and feel very lucky to have it just up the road.

It should be interesting to see how this thing evolves. I am soooo psyched!

Agreed. Sundown just seems to get it & they serve an important niche for us hardcores who need a local night skiing option, among other things.

Greg: you ought to go to epicski & defend Sundown's reputation. There's some young whippersnapper over there who posted in the General Ski Forum about how much of a rip-off a season pass is at Sundown for "such a small mountain." Then other posters piled on just trashing Sundown, even though many of them had never skied it. I thought you'd be the perfect guy to vindicate Sundown's honor & reputation with a rebuttal.

Ohhhhhh...I get it. Throw the NY mod under the bus to impress the bump maker.

I don't think I used the word hype ever...I said you guys are hyper about it, that you really like it and talk about it alot. All I did was throw down the gauntlet and asked the hard question about why you guys like it so much. And there were many responses.

And then (please notice Mr. Bump Master) I said I should come over and check it out.

No respect!
