Doesn't look good for later this week. Of course I am heading up thursday night and it looks like it will be raining  Lets hope the resorts will reover after this rain storm but I can't see them continuing to make snow this late in the season.

I hadn't posted anything cause I didn't want to be the first to use that four-letter word. I am seriously fed up with the weather. We'd intended to ski last Sunday but were snowbound. Being snowbound was fine, at least it wasn't raining and ski conditions could only get better. The week before we managed to ski on Saturday but got completely rained out on Sunday. We were intending to ski this weekend but what I'm seeing is the four-letter word for Friday followed by very cold temps. I don't mind skiing in a little rain if it's not pouring but the ice cube that results following a rain/freeze cycle is not that enticing. I wish I could've gotten out during the week but I have that other four-letter word -- work. Sigh.

Ugh . . This is one bad season.

I think you'll be safe if you head really really far north. Jay Peak might be the only mountain that will get mostly snow out of this.

I was okay with it in January when there was a little bit of time to recover, but like you said, I don't even know if most mountains are going to bother making any more snow this year. Snowmaking budgets are probably maxed out, and after Presidents' Week, a lot of mountains don't feel as though it's economically in their best interests to continue.

I hate to say this, but I'm already thinking about golf :/

Well there's your first mistake, you need to take up a real off season sport like mtn biking.

:dunce:

I will ski as long as the snow pack permits. Whatever happens, no one can change the weather. Gotta take what you can get.

C'mon people, this is Red Sox country, we should be well worn in to using our mantra...

"Well, maybe next year"

In all seriousness, I don't think the rain will be as much or as long as past storms this winter.

Tried Mountain biking . . . turns out there's less of a chance of injury with Golf (although drunken golf cart driving is in itself a dangerous endeavor). Besides, for someone with one of the greatest golf movies of all time as his avatar, I thought you'd be into it. You do drugs, Danny?

Like you, I'm going to keep skiing until the snow runs out (and then hike to get more), but it's SO warm out today, I just might hit a bucket of balls.

Looks like cold air will return Friday with the rain turning to snow. I am amazed that we hit 56 degrees today, middle of Feb. WTF!

Don't expect much snow on the back end of this storm. Most places will end up with only a few inches based on the current forecast. Also, temps are going to be FRIGID after this system moves out. Could get ugly after all that water freezes.

FWIW we have bare ground here in the Upper Valley and all the way up to Bethel, VT. :(

This winter really sucks. I'm sorry, but I have never seen it this bad for this long a period of time.

I'm really worried as to what is going to happen to the resorts, especially if we have bad weather next week. This seems reminiscent of one season in the 1970's that I've heard about...it was during the energy crisis when gas prices were extremely high, there was no snow, and a significant # of ski areas shut their doors for good. I hope we don't have a repeat.

I try hard to stay out of the weather prediction game cause I'm going skiing anyway, but, FWIW, the long range for the next 2 weeks after Friday is for alot of very cold weather, the coldest stretch of the season. There are 2 possibilities for snow also.

So don't sound so glum ski buddies.

FWIW.

the forcast is looking less rain, more snow. They are calling for a changeover at around 9 am friday for Stowe (valley), the above 2000 feet may make out better then we thought.

I hope you are right, but I don't believe the forecasters called for this week's warmup and tomorrow's forecast NCP at two weeks out.

Guess I just don't think much of the long-range forecasts this winter...

I for one am glad I'm satisfied with skiing on groomed man-made snow...as rough as this season's been, I've had a lot of good days.

Nope...I've got at least 6 rain days under my belt so far this season. Doesn't bother me.

I've had a good year and I don't have a pass. over 20 days all untracked POW. Of course 15 of them were in December, but we're not really behind in our average snowfall. 200 plus inches at Stowe, over 50 inches at the stake means all the off piste stuff is ready. I'd rather it be warm when it's not snowing then 30 below. (last January sucked too!) At least I can Boat.

I don't so much mind a light rain or shower, the skiing is really good. It's the rain followed by the hard freeze. Good grooming can get it decent pretty quickly, but the underlying base is pretty crunchy.

Skiing in the rain is definitely fun. However, skiing after the rain and a freeze is what drives everyone mad.

got my eye on the forecasts... agreed, the r--- is not as imminent as first thought. the wind looks problematic tho. the gondi and lifts... they'll shut down at 60mph, right? :-?

edit: oops, looks like the knee is good! (just saw your second post about 20 pow days)

Knee=goodish. Trying not to ski hardpack ever again, everhtings good. Did you buy that condo or what?

If the lifts don't run that's even better, I can get 2 brooks fresh in 1 day.
