The thing that got me was when the article was written. St.Pats day, when anyone who is into skiing was out on the slopes shralping up all the white stuff that fell. I was at Stowe in a blizzard. The night of St.Pats I could barely drink my beer with Bean. I needed some sleep for the following days deep skiing. I wonder if they even bothered to hit the slopes in their rental gear. And if not, why write for a ski mag. And yes, 2001 is a long time ago and I did write back and say that it was time for a new article.

IMHO you can't say you often cover something if the last time was 2001. From the way Jessica made it sound they were there collecting info on more than just the night life, but that's all that made it in...

I must say I'm surprised that you got such a prompt response, even if it is pretty lame.

I dont get how this is completely unreasonable. Ski is one of the largest publications out there. There are hundreds upon hundreds of resorts. You expect them to cover Hunter (which is really not all that in terms of end all be all eastern resorts - not a knock, but lets be real, its no Stowe, Jay, Face, Bush, hell even Killinton for nightlife) more than once every six years? Its only 12 publications a year, especially when they had a feature. Sure it sounds kinda wierd, but in reality its not that unreasonable.

While I see where you're coming from, maybe Hunter has lost some of its nightlife luster, but think about the market area of the resort. We serve NYC to a far greater extent than the New England resorts. We are NY/NJ Metro peoples' prime day- and weekend trips, while those resorts require a lot of driving. With the rising prices of gas, the way the economy is going with the housing market, interest rates, lower consumerism and spending, people are looking for high quality close to home.

I am talking only, in this instance, about the NY metro market, but I wouldn't discount the mountains down this way. NYC is still the largest city in the US, with an enormous suburban and commuting area, and has a huge population of skiers. Conditions/elevation/snowfall wise, sure, we don't compare to Sugarloaf and Stowe, but we have something they don't -- and in the end, magazines write and publish to sell.

I agree. In fact it's even less than 12 publications a year because they don't print in the summer and they usually combine the April/May Issue.

I'm usually in the "less coverage for my mountain the better" school, but I can see how an article about guidos overrunning one's mountain could be a bit deterimental. I mean, will more guidos be tempted to go to Hunter to be with their own kind? Do guidos travel in packs? Will they bring those annoying Jersey Shore chicks with their whiny accents? THAT is the kind of stuff you should be worried about . . . not whether a magazine has covered the skiing aspect of your mountain enough.

I think guidos do travel in packs.

I actually think that just using the designation "guido" in a supposedly professional print magazine of any kind is hilarious.

Which brings you back to the point that it makes no sense to get too crazy about such an article.

And that ski rags pretty much suck.

I don't even know how the Guidos make it up to the mountain. IROC Z's and Trans ams suck in the snow.

I'm not getting all worked up about it. I could personally care less who they write articles about. I just think if you're going to put an article in a ski rag about a mountain it should be about skiing, especially when the writer was there during a good storm. Just my opinion obviously, I have no interest about the nightlife scene at any mountain. The only reason I even read Skiing is because it appears in my mailbox for free during the winter months.
