Actually went out to start the car 10 mins before I had to leave this morning to melt the ice and warm up the car (35 when I got up) this morning.

I do that alot in the winter, especially when I had the older, carbureted truck that didn't run for crap when it was cold. For some reason I kept having the urge to do so all summer long, when it's obviously not needed. I guess that's yet another part of winter that I'm looking forward to...

I have a 5 min drive to the train station so If I don't start the car early it never really warms up. I freeze my A off and I don't think it's good to drive the car cold everyday. Definitely a sign of a new season.

How exactly did you determine the first frost in previous years? I'd like to see the change to blue, but changing the tradition somehow makes it less meaningful IMO.

I agree, all these cry babies are really starting to irritate me...

I'm envious of you guys with frost on your windscreens, how sad is that??? :-?
Huh?

It sure felt cold enough in our apartment for the winter theme. That is until I convinced Brian to turn the furnace on last night.

Then again, I always had it on the winter theme anyway. ;)

I did not have any frost on my windshield this morning. It was snowing yesterday. The slides I can see from my house are all white. They must have gotten a few inches over the past couple of days.

It's an extremely scientific and time-consuming process:

  1. I look outside.
  2. If I see frost on the lawn, I say to myself, "hurray, first frost!"
  3. I change the default theme and reorder the forums to put the skiing ones on top.

I suspect the new tradition, if it's any different from old, includes 'Wait untill the masses are frothing at the mouth because they REALLY need a snow hit, and whilst not the real thing, it's like smoking oregeno..'

Agreed! Though I would probably forget to leave it in neutral with my kind of brain power lately...

I always leave my car in neutral, unless on a major hill. So no problem for me. Dont need a starter as I have the only vehicle small enough to fit in the garage.

Same here, It's such a habit to stick a car in gear when parking even though the driveway is flat.
