thread inspired by Greg's bumped Rumble thread.

Rumble is pretty much the signature run of Sugarbush's Castlerock. Goat, the signature run of Stowe's Front Four.

you're preference?

and why?

Rumble, no contest, hands down. I was really disappointed when I skied Goat for the first time. It was narrow enough but straight and fairly steep isn't enough to get my jones going. My first experience down Rumble was the complete opposite and I was delighted to find such a windy twisting narrow trail still exists in New England. I would put a lot of quality trails in front of Goat.

Ditto - not that I was dissappointed with Goat, it's just the twists and turns of Rumble.............

I like them both...I feel there are pros and cons to both..

Pros to Rumble...narrow and lots of twists..limited traffic

Cons to Rumble..the Castlerock chair has to be open to access it which is rare some seasons...unless you traverse over on the Long Trail from Heavens Gate.

Pros to Goat..it's long..is skiable more often than Goat..top section is gnarly as all fizzle..often times reserved and easy to poach..

Cons to Goat..right near a high speed quad..

I like Lookout at Stowe better than Goat..

Just gotta go with Stowe cuz I skied Goat on a powder day and the one time I went to Sugarbush Rumble was complete junk....I'll have to ski it again this year on a powder day, then I can compare better.

I'll refrain from voting because I haven't skied the top of Goat - it was closed both times I've been to Stowe. So I've skied Goat from the cutoff from the Lookout Double that goes across Liftline and then over to Goat. Based on the portions I've skied, Rumble definitely wins. But I assume I am missing the hardest part of Goat, so I don't want to unfairly judge it.

I don't have a lot of time in at Sugarbush, but I've seen the Castlerock chair spinning more often than not. Outside of a wind hold, if the CR double is not turning, Rumble's probably not skiable anyway...

Never skied Goat and I've only skied Rumble once, but it definitely is one of my favorites.

Rumble

for sure.

As an aside,
MRG has a number of very Rumble-esque options....a noticeable number.

I went for Goat due to fond memories of passing my PSIA level III or as it was called then Full Certification there March of 89.

I had just broken my K2 VO slaloms the week before skiing whiteface to prep so I picked up a pair of KVC's (the pink ones) as I didn't have time to wait for new VO's and the KVC's turned out to be much better in the bumps anyway. Arrived at Stowe a little before noon the day before the exam to find that only liftline to national (of the front four ) was open due to ice and that was just opened that day. It turned out that they had rain about a week before then brutaly cold and it was litteraly bulletproof. They opened everything for the exam the next day and for the first run the examiner went to the top of Goat. Looking down it was solid frozen volkswagons. The examiner (Bruno) tells us to follow him and takes off. Having learned my lesson about being stuck behind someone in the past I jump right in after him. He stops just about at the bottom, I pull in right behind him and look up the hill. There are people scattered all over the place. It took some people 20 minutes to get down. I passed the skiing right there.

Rumble albiet a good trail is not steep enough to top goat.

Again, I've never skied Goat so I can't compare fairly, but I would take a flatter trail with more character (twists, turns, terrain variations, etc.) over a steeper one that lacks these features anyday.

Goat has plenty of character. you will see. I consider rumble an intermediate learners bump run. You can look like a hero on it cause it so easy to check your speed.

Rumble or Goat?

I'll take anything :)

I always like pictures of steep, scary trails, especially if they have AZers on them.

Plus using pictures support their arguments would be better.

Wow. You must be one helluva accomplished skier if you consider Rumble an "intermediate learners bump run..." :-o Hopefully when I get up to Whiteface with HPD you'll come out with us. It would be a pleasure to watch you ski, I'm sure.
