Since I can't seem to get skiing of my mind... I thought why not talk about it some more.

So, list some of your accomplishments from this year and some goals you hope to accomplish next year, be it mountains skied, days out, technique, etc.

This year I really improved my mogul and glade skiing. I've really only been skiing moguls for two seasons now, and Outer Limits was no big deal come the end of this season (with good conditions). I really found an addiction with glade skiing, especially when we went the day before Easter to Jay Peak.

I did a couple tours, which was great, even though they involved very little actual downhill skiing. I still have fun just being outside, even if I end up on a different side of the mountain from which I started.

So major goals accomplished were:

1) Ski at Tuckerman Ravine
2) Go through Avi 1
3) Tour at least once (did about six earned turns days)
4) Further progress mogul/glade skills

This year I'd really like to do at least 1/3 of my days touring. Even if its just skinning up Wachusett a couple times. I want to do at least one real BC trip to the US Rockies, Canadian Rockies or the Chic Chocs. I'd be just as happy with any of them.

I'd also like to make it to more AZ outings and hopefully ski a bit more with the Sundown crew on Wednesdays...

OK, now you :)

For me:

1) I thoroughly trashed my previous record of days skied of 33, with 45 days in this year.
2) Skied in Colorado with my son for the first time.
3) Skied in Nevada for the first time.
4) I skied the backside at sugarloaf with my son and experienced 5' of new snow in one
week.
5) Did my first hike for turns at a ski area, and earned turns at Killington after they closed
for the year.

My goals for next year:

1) Summer skiing either in the Southern Hemisphere, or on Mount Hood.
2) Taking a trip to Northern Idaho and skiing Idaho, Montana and Washington state for the
first time.
3) Skiing the last remaining area's for me in Massacusetts, Blue Hills, Ski Ward and Pine
Ridge.

Accomplishments:
  • Got better at moguls. First season ever really skiing moguls, and I even though I still sucked by the end of the season, I sucked a lot less than before.
  • 6 days on Mt. Washington. Two with over 5,000 ft. of vertical skied.
Hmm... I didn't accomplish too much.

Goals for next season:
  • Be able to zipperline most bump lines. Tough goal, but with 20 more days in the bumps I think I should be able to do it.
  • 20 days in the Presis. Again very though, but if I can actually find some touring partners then it shouldn't be too hard.
  • Some sort of BC trip outside of New England. Probably the Chic Choc since I'm going to be a poor college student.
  • Perfect my carve and angulation so I can rip the groomers with the best of them:p

This season's highlights:
  • Met 18 new AlpineZoners this season! Many repeats.
  • My goal was 30 days and I scored 35 so I'm thrilled!
  • The Hunter 12/15 Gathering, 16 AZers + friends = 22 strong.
  • While bittersweet, spring bumps at Hunter in December and January were fun.
  • Wednesday night Sundown AZ gatherings
  • ~175 bump runs on Nor'easter at Sundown!
  • Got to the MRV three times; Skied a damn cold midweek at Sugarbush and MRG in March; April powder day at MRG!
  • Probably some of the worst conditions of the season (certainly not their fault) but got to a new mountain this season at Gore.
  • Scooped up powder remnants at Beast and Magic.
  • Skied several new trails I've been meaning to hit inclucing Redline (Magic); Beast (B-East); Rumble, Spillsville (Sugarbush); Annapurna (Hunter); Paradise and Fall Line (MRG).
  • Made several advances with my skiing, specifically bumps, including a tighter stance, standing a bit taller, better A&E, and a more aggressive line.
  • Finished off the season on a ton of terrain at Killington with phenominal spring conditions.
  • All in all, my best season yet. However, what really made it memorable was getting my four year old on skis for the first time. She got in 8 days and progressed to riding the chairlift by Day 8. Most importantly is that she's looking forward to next season already! :)
2007-08 Goals:
  • First and foremost, I want to get my daughter out more. My goal with her is to get her skiing independently and without the Edgie Wedgie. I'd like to finish the season with her going to summit of Sundown and skiing Tom's Treat.
  • Secondly, I'd like to continue to improve in the bumps. I feel I made a ton of progress this season. In fact, I posted a video of a bunch of my bump skiing here. The strides in technique are pretty clear. Looking to follow up on that this season. The guys on the MogulSkiing.net forum are giving me some great advice on things to work on. I also hope to be on a comp level bump ski next season.
  • Plan to get back up to the MRV. Want to hit Magic and Berkshire East again. Would be psyched to get back up to the Loaf and would be thrilled to tag a new mountain next year; sights are set on Whiteface.

Got pretty decent at telemarking. Psyched on that.

Hoping to check out more western Canada spots at the end of next season. This year was AB, next year maybe BC.

Good thread Marc!

+

  • first >30 days season
  • ok at moguls. At least not so intimidated.
  • first CO trip
  • got to tux
  • first nastar silver (not some bs nastar but a relatively competitive one... actually it is a bs nastar b/c it's way turnier than a nastar course is "supposed" to be)
next year
  • 40+ days
  • improve in moguls (i.e. not cringe when I see pics/vid)
  • nastar gold - treeskier: I'm hitting you up for lessons this year - in fact I hope to get my @ss kicked regularly
  • Utah trip, at least 5+ days of consecutive skiing
  • some touring/slackcountry with the sketchers I have yet to use, minimum 3 trips
  • do all my own tuning (except base grind)
  • get to at least 3 new areas
  • get to tux early enough to ski sherbie all the way to the lot
  • ski the sh!t out of magic
  • organize an AZ outing
  • see the inside of BobR's new condo @ daRiver, hopefully in combination with Ga2ski kicking my butt on the slopes (not to mention Bob's son)
  • get the wife confident enough to ski on her own, even if it's only the bunny slope (perhaps the biggest challenge of all)

40+ by itself would be enough to make it a pretty good season though... :daffy:

*31 Days, tied my record from last year
*Stratton, Stowe, and Pico- New Areas
*St. Patricks snowstorm at Stowe- 3 feet and insane woods
*Powder day at Mount Snow in April

Next year:

Hoping for 40+ days
Not too concerned about skiing pre Turkey Day unless theres good snow, but I'd love to go a lot further into spring
Maybe a few new areas... I should be a bit more flexible next year as far as areas I visit

I'm going to keep my days out goal at 30 for next season. I felt like I had a pretty aggressive ski schedule this season (at least for me) so at this point in my life 30 is about right. Again, I hit 35 this year so there's no reason that shouldn't be doable again, but I'll just say 30.

This Year/Next Year

This Year: First year with a seasons pass (a41) as an adult. Skiied 25 days, which was amazing for me. Both my kids ages 6 and 9 progressed to skiing most of the mountain at Mt. Snow (they even made it to Fallen Timbers on the North Face on a perfect condition day!) Took a three day easte trip to Sunday River.

Next Year: Already have my Mt. Snow classic pass. Hope to surpass my 25 days. Wan't to get out on opening day, just to say I did it! Hope to improve my skiing in varied conditions, learn some mogul techniques, get more comfortable on steeper trails, etc. Will definitely continue the Sunday River for Easter tradition we began last year. Wan't to buy my wife a womens ski clinic package for her birthday and suck her a bit further into my obsession with skiing. Ski longer days more often. This year since I live right down the road from Mt Snow, many of my ski days were from 8:00 to 10:00 during which time I could get in 8-10 quality runs, I hope to increase my milage by increasing the time spent on the hill when I go. I also want to get to the Beast and Crotched for night skiing at least once each this year. Maybe even meet up with some AZers at the Beast???

-Took Avy 1 course
-Got into the bumps for the 1st time
-Got into BCing and got addicted
-Increased my steepness comfort factor

To accomplish:
-Get my own BC setup (have boots)

highlights

Got a sweet day in at magic that included dropping both the hits on redline
Met a bunch of new AZers
2 incredible powder days at killington in April
Didnt get hurt, at least to the point where i had to cut my season short, which had been a pattern the last 4 years or so.
I think I managed to add some more speed to my bump skiing. Tried to minimize the hopping and slamming but not all the way there yet.

next year
Really want to work on altering my bump technique. Get more contact on the backside of the bump and reduce my air time. Shin pressure.
Want to get some of my airs back.
Get my daughter started at sundown.
Suck it up and enter the BMMC, just to do it.
Have fun.

All good stuff. Guess I'll see you on Little Joe? Don't expect a ton the first season out, but keep at it. Make it a normal weekend thing. Let her decide how the day goes; i.e. when to take breaks, when to quit, when to graduate to the chairlift, etc. I'm buying my oldest new skis this season. We did a season rental last season which worked out well to see if she liked it. It's a lot of fun. Enjoy!!

I think we need an AZ chic chocs trip. We could rent out a cabin in the middle of the park if we can get enough people. Anyone speak French?
Seems like we have enough interest here... sounds doable.

This season:
Only missed one possible day of skiing (MLK day), otherwise skied as much as I possibly could.

Next season:
Not going to miss even one day of possible skiing.
