Don't worry too much about it yet. If I remeber correctly you're 15, meaning you still have plenty of time. I am 18, a senior this year, and still don't know where I want to go (the list grows shorter though). As a side note, I think UNH and UVM both have great environmetal science programs if that's what you think you're interested in. BTW......Where do you go to high school? I notice you're in my area

what the heck is wrong with a state school!?!?! state school graduatates represent! seriously though, lyndon's met program is pretty damn sweet. if you are interested in met, lyndon is defintely worth a look. great faculty and lots of hands on experience with small classes. enviro science isn't really very big and has a small faculty. burke pass for $199, jay and cannon within an hour and the other great VT areas in ~1.5.

My Season Passes

For me and my family, I bought the Sugarbush family passes. While it's on the expensive side, by paying $989 + tax, I get an unlimited pass for me plus one free Jr. pass for one of my children under 12. I also then get Jr. passes for the rest of my children under 12 for $199 + tax. It would have been cheaper if I had bought before May 5.

Since I own a condo in the MRV, it makes sense for me and my family (wife plus 4 children) to get the SB passes. We're up there all the time so we get our money's worth. I would love it if SB dropped their season pass prices (as someone suggested they are out of touch with the recent trend of affordable season passes).

It's an expensive proposition but its a good investment to spend quality time with the family plus I get to ski whenever I'm willing to make the 3 hour drive to the MRV. As many others have pointed out, you can ski a few runs on a day and not worry about getting your money's worth. It also is a great incentive to head north when a Nor'easter (or other storm) is predicted so that I can get in a powder day without having to worry about whether I can afford to pay for lift tickets that week.

We also pick-up a Mad Card from MRG. You get 3 days of skiing and all 4 of my children get free season passes at MRG. No one beats that deal!

If I didn't have a condo in the MRV I would definitely do the ASC All for One Pass. That is an unbeatable offer. But with what I have paid for SB passes, its hard for me to justify buying one of those also. :-?

Now all I have to hope for is a good snow year!! :D

When you have a place you are almost forced to get a pass near the mountain you love. Not a bad thing. When you take into account what the cost of the permenent lodging is the pass prices don't seem quite so bad. Still cheaper than buying day tickets. At least that has been my feeling.

Good point Guys I forgot about getting a couple black out dates back. My Asc Pass came Sat in the mail. That was cool. I'll pick up my threedom over Columbus day weekend.

Interesting
I did not realize there were so many good deals. the cannon,Sunapee, Gunstock deal sounds good. Can you night ski at Gunstock on that pass? The Burke pass sees to have good benfits with the Jay and Cannon options. The Wachusett pass has appeal for local folk. The deal at Bretton woods for $399 I thought was interesting also, have not seen anyone here post they have bought it. That pass was over $1000 last year. I wonder if SugarBush will drop the price next year. I know a few folks who went for the Mt Ellen only pass I think that was 399.

$249 for BW & Cannon mid-week, that's a steal if you make only 5 mid-week trips to either. though cannon has two-fers on tues & thurs which makes it harder to break even as quick. i think the cannon/sunapee/gunstock deal is college students only. i know a guy in grad school at UNH picking up that deal. pretty sweet since it covers most regions in NH depending upon where the powder falls.

Madonna 1 is a brutally cold (it actually goes on cold hold - it's been known to hit -70 up top) and windy and slow lift.

Seventy below?  Are you the guy who made the same claim about Mt Ellen? 70 BELOW with WINDCHILL I buy, but -70F Ambient Air Temperature I dispute. It does not get that cold on Washington or anywhere on earth.
Sorry, I meant with wind chill. And I never made a claim like that about Mt. Ellen.

I think your right Steve. The Cannon, Sunapee, Gunstock pass is what TB bought and he is in school again.
Booth Creek resorts were the 1st ones that brought in the lower prices a few years back with the Threedom pass. I'm back into skiing more beacsue of the lower pass prices. I see more families on the hill I assume for the same reason. Before that pass I was an ambassador. That helped keep the cost down. I was usually working and did not get many family runs.

A state school won't be cheaper if you are going out of state. You get almost no financial aid and tuition is way higher. I was looking at UVM in addition to St. Mikes and chose SMC because it was cheaper, among many other reasons. I also liked the size better and it's a great campus that's close to skiing. On that note, I suggest all of you high schoolers go to St Mikes (no environmental science or meteorology though).

I got alot of money from UVM to go there and would have had not debt after college. I decided to go out of state and paid loans for 10 years. The car payment with out a car deal. If I had a another chance I would have gone to UVM. I feel I would make the same money no matter where I went.
Take the least exspensive way out that gives you a good education. Everyone has to do what they feel is right. Take into account the long term issues. ie loans vs earning potential.

for you guys who got the ASC pass sent to you in the mail, did you use the photo upload function they sent out? I haven't done that yet, but I'm more concerned because my address changed since I ordered the pass. I don't really want them sending it to my old address.

Season Passes...
ASC, Wachusett.

Was toying with the idea of getting the Threedom. Realized that I don't really enjoy Loon and Waterville when compared to the ASC resorts. Not to mention I'd have to pay for it.

Yes, nightskiing included. No blackouts. Will definitely try Gunstock...just to say I've been there

The Burke pass seems to have good benfits with the Jay and Cannon options.

Won't matter in my case because I will be skiing at Cannon on the Sunapee Pass . However, Jay dropped their deal with Burke  so that only full adult or children passes are acceptable at Jay on MIDWEEK NON-HOLIDAY which kind of eliminates that benefit. It is about the same distance from my house to either Cannon or Jay and to be honest in my experience both have similar bad weather and problems with wind/ice, so there is no loss and no real gain. I do get the discount at Dartmouth SkiWay, so I will be trying that place as well.

The Wachusett pass has appeal for local folk. The deal at Bretton woods for $399 I thought was interesting also, have not seen anyone here post they have bought it. That pass was over $1000 last year.

Wachusett's Century Pass is a good deal. BW finally woke up and smelled the coffee...ASC stealing business and other places undercutting them. The 'highrollers' have not really come through...locals leaving...so entice them with cheaper passes. Good deal if you like that ski area.

I wonder if SugarBush will drop the price next year. I know a few folks who went for the Mt Ellen only pass I think that was 399.

Ellen is a good pass. SB has a captive audience in that condo owners buy passes, which is kind of a raw deal. Many are upset with SB over the price. SB is aiming to be like Stowe, at least with the price  Charging the Stowe price with less than ideal lodges and facilities. Some of a snob factor as well...on RSN, SB staff and former staff have been less than receptive to input from skiers including limiting rates. I still get  when I think of the snow report I heard from SB this past winter, "ski from 12:15 to 4pm for ONLY $50" as if that was nothing at all. So they may too soon realize that their passes are too high and nobody is buying...

And to think my sister gets a free SB pass for good grades and has NEVER used it during the last two-three seasons  :x

I don't totally agree with that. I could have gone to URI for free but I'm really glad that I went to St Mikes, even though I'll be paying for it for years. They were the best 4 years of my life and I got to ski a ton. I think the situation would have been far different at URI and I would be hanging out with the same kids from HS and still stuck in the black hole that is RI.

In terms of earning potential, though, it doesn't matter where you go to school once you get your first job. There is a lot more to college than just how much money you're going to make after it though.

Ditto on the free ride to URI that I'm glad I didn't take. 13th grade is fun and all, but no thanks.

I visited St Mike's I liked the dorms and campus. I did not expect everyone to agree with me. You had great points. Im going to see 6 of my college buds I graduated with this weekend. College was a blast. I guess where I was going was loans VS no loans. I agree I could make the same money no matter where I went to school.

I see. Being a junior makes things a bit more urgent as you have only about 15 months left. I have heard of Lynn Classical and all of the other schools in Lynn. I agree with some other people here about not knocking state colleges and universities. I am a senior at St. John's Prep in Danvers (you've probably heard of it)and in a prep school environment, kids tend to look down at state schools. Some of them are rich (which I am NOT) and are well connected and will go to Dartmouth or Brown. The rest end up going to BC, Providence, Villanova, and schools like that. Depending on what you are going to study, state schools can be a great bargain. U Mass Lowell for example has a terrific engineering program and if you're going to be an engineer you're better off there than at Harvard. The bottom line is forget what other people say and go to the school that is right for you, not the most expensive, prestigeous one you can get in to.
