Kind of a weird question for the forum. Did you try calling them?

Sort of related - I plan on getting season rentals for my daughter who'll be four this season. Has anyone else taken this approach with their kids? For like $100 a season, it seems like the best way to go for the first few as they'll most likely grow out of their gear within a season or two...

I bought my daughter's first set of used skis and boots (linings were new) at Ski Market for $80.

They were cheaper than season rentals, the condition was fine for a beginner/novice, and I didn't have to worry about a deposit if she beat them up.

Same here...got them at a ski swap for my oldest son David when he was 3, the whole package cost me $40.

My other 2 sons Peter and James have used the same equipment since.

I did it one season. I found it was better in the long run $ wise to buy the first pair (used)and trade them in at the same shop each season. Most shops will do this with kids skis, it costs around $50 a season this way.

Go to your local ski swap. Check what they have availbe, and if you dont see anything there you like then get the seasonla rental.

You can find great deals on gear for the little ones. they dont need the latest and greatest, so even older straight skis will work for them.

I have rented my boys ski and snowboard equipment for the last 3 seasons. I made the mistake of buying new 4 years ago and it cost me a small fortune. They did get to use the equipment for two seasons but then Nature decided it was time for them to grow. They are now 13 and 11 and I rent every year for the season. It is about 150 a season for the snowbaord package and about 120 a year for the ski package. For me, it is my best choice as they are growing fast and can outgrow a proper fitting boot in the middle of the season. Usually the insurance is only $10 or $15 bucks for the season for each. I know the owners of the sports shop we rent from and we get new equipment every year, it fits right, and I don't have to worry about it. How can you beat that?

I've bought two pairs of skis for my son in the last 4 years - 1st pair, 2 years of skiing and 2nd pair, this will be the 2nd season. I've bought the skis at summer closeout sales for 60% off and felt comforted that they were "new" - probably not logical. The problem with my son is his feet grow so much year to year, we are buying new boots every year right before the season begins which sets us back $100+ (junior recreational boots). I kind of work on an amortization principle - equipment cost divided by # of times skiied. If I get into the <$5 range which I do with the skis I'm happy to buy, but the boots don't meet that criteria.

BTW: this year his feet have outgrown junior sizes which is dilemma because I don't want to put him in a stiffer adult boot.

I'm in the same boot with my youngest son. Last year winter he was a shoe size 6, now he's in 9 and he only weighs 100 lbs. I'm thinking of a Nordica Easy Move or GTS series boot, they have low flex indexs, but the problem is they have wider lasts and he has a narrow foot. I'm sure not putting him in a Dobie. I'll figure out something.

I used to get my kids gear that was the previous season rentals. The most expensive was $75 for skiis and bindings, $40 for boots and $5 for poles. price was determined by the model not condition so go early. I usually found stuff that looked brand new. Then I had stuff to pass down or sell and recoup most if not all of the cost.
