Heard this news this morning. Stunning. It probably shouldn't be, but it is.

Old Tyrolia Bindings for Base Jumping

here is something interesting

snip--->>>

Support Your Local Ski B.A.S.E. Jumpers: Old Tyrollia Bindings Needed
By David LaPlante • on March 20, 2007

Nutty Squaw skiers Shane McConkey [video] and J.T. Holmes are out (again) in Europe doing more of their silly silly ski BASE jumps for Matchstick. As usual, they will ski off the side off a cliff, release their skis, and then pop the parachutes. To do this “safely”they need to be able to release the bindings by pulling rather than pushing.
The only kind of bindings that release by pulling up are the old 1980s Tyrollia’s. Typical model numbers were probably 2xx, 3xx, or 4xx (e.g., 490). (See inset picture).

And here is the sad photo...

Right where I want to be
When I was out in Squaw earlier this year Shane was out skiing with some people (who paid him 1000 clams to ski with them) and he did this cool line with my kids watching from below. I didn't see because I was skiing this pussy gully line next to it. Anyway he stopped by to say hi to my kids at the bottom. He was an awesome skier and will be missed by many. He pushed the limit of what was skiable. RIP (Rest in Powder) Shane

Man, I never saw some of the jumps Shane did that are captured here. A couple of them actually made me jump

Thanks for posting that billski. Hadn't seen some of that footage before. Chilling stuff at the beginning, but overall a good tribute. The dude had super skillz.
