I'm watching thanks to your reminder on Facebook. This is making me wonder why I returned to surfing. My friend is a marine biologist and has a shark cage. He asked me to join him on a dive. I just might. He often compared sharks to those dragons you see in Chinese parades. He says they undulate in the water and are majestic. Amazing!

Word to the wise. If you're tired and looking to take a lazy Sunday mid-afternoon nap, don't watch a Shark Week program prior to. You won't sleep.

and that was my afternoon.

Sounds like a good opportunity to see them up close, if you don't take him up on the offer I will!

I can't stand the over dramatization in the shows. Seriously. Yesterday they have teh guy in the shark cage and the narrator goes, "(insert name here) struggles to close the door on the cage", and meanwhile in the video the guy just swings the door shut and twists the handle. I did'nt see anything remotely resembling a struggle

Yeah, I get it is better for ratings to make it dramatic. I'm just surprised how many people fall for all that embellishment.

Welcome to pretty much any show on TV.

"Jaws Comes Home" hit a little too close to home. I usually swim in Chatham and surf off Eastham and Wellfleet. My friend, the marine biologist, talks shark with Greg Skomal all the time. I was surprised to know that the whites stay in Cape waters until November and that they travel past Truro.

By the way, 03jeff, my friend's diving cage is not made of steel but just pvc pipe and twine. He says all you need is a barrier. IIRC correctly, the diving cage Skomal used in that TV program was the same one used in Jaws in the 70s. Story goes that, after shooting wrapped up, no one wanted the cage so he packed it up and stuck it in his garage for thirty years. There was no use for it because there were no whites in the area until last year.

For those of you who would like to catch Greg Skomal speak about the sharks of Cape Cod, he's speaking tomorrow (Aug. 2, 7 pm) at the Salt Pond Visitor Center in Eastham

Yeah I know. It just gets me on documentaries.

We watched Ice Road Truckers last night. The music made it mentally draining. Just making a lefthand turn...and they've got the "ohsnap! He's gonna crash!!1111!!" music blasting. C'mon guys....seriously?
