According to my Grandfather, bushey tails on racoons and thick corn husks are a sign of harsh winters too.

Some say you can tell by the nuts from Oak/Hickory trees. BTW, they officially started falling from my trees this weekend. Time to break out the hardhat for any yard work!!

I've never really looked into sunspots being predictors of weather...does anyone know where I can read more about that?

A pal sent me a link to the latest Almanac prediction for this winter.

Granted, not all that scientific...but it makes for VERY exciting reading for this winter.

If you believe the almanac...colder and snowier than normal...a lot colder and snowier.

Cool August compared to the last 20, my Hasta is already starting to yellow, and heating oil going up another 25% on CNBC.

For sure..it has been a cool August..

I go outside, and if it is cold then it is cold......Dont watch the weather, or any of that junk.:-D

You are a 70 year old trapped in a 22 year olds body..

My nuts tend to shrink a bit when it starts.

There is some historical evidence that the less sunspot activity the cooler the Earth is. I think right now there are no sunspots at all.

it would be really nice to have some significant snow in northern nj. i have a bunch of mini tours i would love to do on my splity. plus it would be fun to get out on the lake with the sleds.

Yeah, the 7" we got last winter was a little disappointing.

When colder weather is coming, some signs one can observe in nature is when a specific group of Homo sapiens called 'golfers' start giving the evil eye to another group(s) called 'skiers' or 'riders'. It is a vicious cycle that goes opposite in late spring with the approach of warmer weather.
