Skiing seems pretty expensive this year, most places are over $60, even now where just a few trails open. Wonder if we'll see less lines on weekends? How many times can a family ski with these prices, plus the price of gas, and those expensive meals. I think once they go over the $60 mark people will cut down on the number of times they ski. Stratton gets $75 for a weekend and someone said they paid $13 for a burger, fries and coke. If I owned a resort, I'd rather charge less money and have more people.

Straight up ticket prices are brutal. But, If you're flexible, there's little need to pay full price.

See the top "Skiing on the Cheap" thread in this forum for some ideas.

Also, passes save you a ton of cash, if used regularly.

Clubs - BSSC (and other local clubs) have good prices on ticket/bus deals as do some of the shops like Ski Market.

Special discount days, Entertainment books, many ways to save on the ticket. Plus stay+ticket deals can save some cash as well.

Is the price really going to stop most people, I don't think so. My 3 favorite things to do are extremely expensive. Golf, Boating, and Skiing. Think of paying about $100 to play a round of golf in the summer here on the Cape. That only lasts about 4-6 hours depending on how busy it is, you get pissed off because it is hot and people are taking too long. You can ski from 8-4 at most places in the height of the season, hangout with friends, explore new places and get a real workout. A day on the boat is about $100-$200 in gas at over $3/gallon. Either way todays society is going to do it anyways. I am not wealthy in any way, just have expensive addictions and know how to manage my money.

The prices of the ticket is the cheapest part. Think of it this way:

SUV w/ TV/DVD 40-100k Gotta have it these days
Thule Box or boxes $400
Skis $$-$$$$
Gear $-$$$$$
Meals $$-$$$
Lodging $$$-$$$$$

Next time you are driving north especially on a Friday night look at the cars that people are driving, how much crap they have crammed on the roof and all of the little kids in the back each with their own tv and Ipod. I really don't think that too many people are looking at ticket prices as much. It does stink, but it is something we are going to have to deal with. It is only going to get worse. Especially if this weather is a pattern to come.

Some mountain are running deals like mentioned before. My home mountain Jay is running 2 for 1 this weekend. Buy Sat tick and get sun fo free. The more swanky places such as Stowe, Stratton, and many others will never run deals. They do not need to, people will still go there. I was talking to a buddy of mine who works at Topnotch in Stowe, they have been slammed during the holidays at $300+ /night.

We are the minority who will discuss it all, but when it really comes down to it the industry is not going to change.

I don't see any industy change on the hoirzon. I agree w/ just about everything rvytcc has said. I seem to remember a commercial not too long back talking about all of the things that this guy had ( nice house, new car etc) how did he do it? He's in debt up to his eyeballs! You won't see citibank, chase and capital one asking for a change! Anyone else notice how you can use plastic even in the cafe now?

If you insist on skiing the big boys, you can hunt and find deals. Great reason to stick w/ mid to small mts...just more difficult this year d/t weather.
