Date(s) Skied: 1/17/2009

Resort or Ski Area: Ski Sundown, New Hartford, CT

Conditions: cold (0*F at start, about 20*F at finish), clear skies, light crowds, powder and packed powder

Trip Report: Left late due to not wanting to get out of bed and got on the hill around 9:40AMish. Saw Jeff skiing down while I was in line for the lift so I waited at the top and skied with him. Stuck to Nor'Easter to Exhibition the whole time. Snow was nice and powdery EXCEPT on the bumps. Jeff and I both tried the bumps on Nor'Easter and they were funky and a bit slick. On Exhibition, the bumps in the middle are now wiped out entirely, replaced by a field of ice. Slick in between the bumps. I made some half-hearted attempts on Ex today, but didn't really get anywhere. I was having some great turns otherwise, though. Head cleared nicely, too. Eventually, we met up with Tim and Randi and skied a few runs with them before calling it quits around 1:30PM.

Glad I was shoved out of bed this morning and went, in spite of the cold. My toes were frozen for the first hour and a half but other than that, I was fine and they did warm up eventually. Thanks for skiing with me, Jeff, Randi, and Tim! :D

Yesterday was fun! Took me a while but I finally woke up about half hour into the session...so I should be thanking Carrie, Jeff and Timmy for not ditching me  Agree with Ex- 20ft of sliding on ice to 1 bump, lather, rinse repeat for the top half. A lot less crowded than I expected it to be.

Had fun skiing with everyone and thanks for the cookies Carrie, they were gone before I got to route 44 and were delicious!

I wish the Lower Ex bumps were in better shape, top half of them is an icy mess, lower half/third is skiable. Carrie and I did venture in the upper NE bumps and the Evils should have a video clip of how not to ski them! Next time there I just have to man up and just go down Temptor.

...and I'll meet you at the bottom. ;)

Jeff, you really do have the ability to do it. We just have to get over that fear of speed and just go for it! I know you can, at least, without straddling bumps and getting all screwed up like I did.

Keep at it on the icy Ex bumps guys. It will help you learned to feather your edges. The only way those bumps are going to improve is for a 50 degree day. I love days like that, but this consistent cold is great for maintaining the surface so we still have some snow when the spring bump scene gets going in 6 weeks or so. Until then, keep at it, and you guys might find you'll be ripping those Ex bumps once they soften up and form better lines.

The ex bump on top are pretty wiped out(no bumps) just a sheet of ice. Ski in some bumps on it tonight while you are there;-)
