Got to Sundown at 1:45. Tried to click in and realized the mechanic at my local shop adjusted the heel piece on my binging. i had almost an inch of heel hanging over the back. luckily the repair shop was open. a super nice guy fixed it for me in 5 minutes and i was on my way.

first run was down gunny. the top third was really firm. a number of the backsides of the bumps were glazed over. one nice ice sheet that was 10 yrds x 10 yrds. things were looking firm with not much hope. lots of frozen tracks. i would say 70% of the bumps were in the shade at 2:30. i then skied NE or canyon to the Ex bumps. Surprisingly the Ex bumps were nice and soft. fun just letting them run.

around 3:45 i went back to check gunny. i noticed a trio of patrollers near the tree line. i traversed across a few rows of firm bumps to see some soft snow. there were two lines near the woods that skied pretty well. the line closest to the woods was ok. some of those bumps look more like rollers. it also seems like many people bail out to that right side and the line is breoken up. the line to skiers left of that was nice. but even at this point in the day the top 1/3 of gunny was still really firm. as you move down the mountain the bumps seem to get more and more sun. so as i skied down the tree line i had a few more line choices. but besides those late soft lines the vast majority of bumps were looking mean. i did 4 runs on gunny before bailing.

It was a bit cold today for bumps to soften (I don't recall seeing the temp get above 32 degrees). Good for you for getting out there and making the best of it. :D

Oh geez! The body snatchers have taken you, too!

Puh-lease. Stop bucking the trend already, willya? You were really grooving on Gunny last weekend. Just accept your destiny and move on.

Thanks for braving the firm conditions to get us that report Grassi. Hopefully by Sunday they'll be in fine shape! :D

speed and carving don't do it for me. yes its fun to attempt to carve some turns at times. but for me, the bumps make skiing interesting. as for today i wasn't skiing ice bumps. the Ex bumps were soft and parts of gunny loosed up enough to be fun.

to each his own....

one thing i noticed to today was my nordicas aren't as fun as the gotamas. i don't know if it was the dimensions of the ski or the binding, but something felt off with the nordicas today. but i'm sure part of it was not skiing the for close to a month.

I'm kinda funnin' with ya. But yeah, ice bumps all the way. Bump addiction is a weird thing. It's amazing the crappy bumps you'll suffer through if you have it vs. skiing the flats. I really don't care how well or not I carve, at least not now. Like Grassi said, there's plenty of to/from the bumps to work on that.

Right on..different strokes for different folks..and me and NazarethSkier were the only people to attempt and ski the solid bumps today at Blue..I just try to stay in my line..even if it means not charging and skidding a bit..

So the bump runs at Sundown are not top to bottom??? I guess there is a runout of sorts..

A year ago I would have laughed, but I will, and have, taken lapping ice bumps over firm groomers. Good practice.

Gunbarrel is almost top to bottom. But T2B is only 500 vertical or so. Still with a 7 minute lift ride, lapping it will wear you out in 3 or 4 hours. Come on up and goose stomp with us this spring. Lift ticket is on me.
