Wow, another thread singling out Hunter for something that happens at most areas. I guess it's an improvement in that it wasn't titled "Ski Theft DISASTER at Hunter"

No doubt...

I didn't want to name the areas... But I've seen posts from other Catskill areas that have had people complaining about theft - so it's not limited to Hunter..

Hunter has a FREE ski check...
Hunter has security actively patrolling parking lots and stuff...

But no security will help some kid that thinks he's above getting his stuff ripped off...
Happens everywhere...

skied hunter last year for the first time and took advantage of the free ski check. I've started using a lock myself but I think more mountains should adopt a program like the one Hunter has.

granted, 100's of racer kids aren't going to use it (and if they did they'd break the system) but for the rest of the customers it would be great.

Once heard that a guy brought 3 pairs of skis into a ski shop to put for sale on consignment. The ski shop had him fill out a ticket with his name, address and phone number so if they sold they would mail him a check. After the guy left the ski shop ran the serial numbers of the skis against a list of stolen skis from the State Police... well the numbers were indeed on the stolen list so the ski shop turned the info. over to the State Police.

Ahh, I grew up surfing in Seaside, don't even get me started on that Jersey Shore Show.

Was at a surf comp down LBI years ago. Sunday morning woke up and one of the other participants had his racks w/boards chiseled off his car in the middle of the night.

how is security at hunter? what about security cameras? most resorts have security cameras all over the place, including in the parking lot. all they need is a license plate number, which should lead them to the source.

I don't think so............

The Bush has a new security firm this past season and in talking to them over the winter they also do Okemo and advised that ski/snowboard theft is a big problem at Okemo while at the Bush it happens rarely.
