Don't you hate it when you ask someone about the conditions and they say "It was firm, but it was edgeable"? Or, "There wasn't THAT much snow, but it was skiable"?

What the hell is that? Is that the best thing you can say about a trail? It was skiable???? I know it was skiable, it's an open trail in the east. It's obviously skiable. And Edgeable??? Everything's edgeable, provided your skis have diamonds on the edges. And even if they don't, the snowboarder heelsliding the whole trail would probably say that it's edgeable too.

Next time, if you can't think of anything better to say than, "it was skiable", just say it sucked and save me the trouble of asking somebody who will give me an honest opinion.

I think of edgeable as a step above boilerplate, a step below frozen granular. Hey, maybe while I'm lamed up I could devise a whole standardized, numerical rating system to rate the snow quality so we always knew what was meant by a particular descriptor... nah;-)

Skiable - Enough wet grass and mud in between patches of snow to make it down without walking.
Edgeable - You did not promptly fall on your ass when you laid into a turn, however it did throw your balance off a bit.

Pffft I have no use for skiable or edgeable.

I'm an expert skier and only care if it's carveable.

Edgeable = My skis turn when put up on edge.
Skiable = Enough patches of edgeable snow on the trail to make it top to bottom

Skiable and edgeable are the same to me. If these terms apply then I'm happy.

I'll be sure to credit you when I steal these to use in my standardized snow-skiability rating tool.

no need to..I think skiable and edgeable are two different things...skiable means there's either enough snow to ski it or is manageable..edgeable means you can get a good grip with your edges and therefore carve as opposed to skid..two mornings ago at Blue was not edgeable but it was skiable although I had to do the Pocono shuffle a few times..ungroomed terrain was unskiable..it is possible to ski down unskiable trails but injury can result and survival supersedes steeze/grace

I seem to use skiable and edgeable a lot in my TRs. If you can't figure out what that means, go eff yourself.
