It is the biggest single ski week of the season. The kids are off and mom and dad often take time off to be with them. For many (not AZers) it’s the first time they dusk off the gear and head to the slopes.

Will the scarcity of winter weather to this point effect your ski/ride plans over this period and if so, how?

I have the week off anyway, a season pass at Whiteface and a place to stay in Lake Placid so me and mine are there regardless.

I have this coming week off too. Normally, I ski at least three days somewhere during Christmas week, but my oldest daughter has a four day ski camp starting the day after Christmas at Sundown so any skiing I do will likely be night sessions back at Sundown. May try to take one longer day trip somewhere.

Ahh the only benefit of law school- three and 1/2 weeks totally off.
Anyway I'm heading up to LP on the 26th skiing Whiteface with the GF till the 4th while the parents ski x-country. I'm feeling good about the terrain whiteface will have open and not so good about their chances to cross country.
But never thought about not going because it's better to sit around up there than anywhere else.

I "have" to go to Lake George next week to the Sagamore (non-refundable timeshare exchange reservations), so while I'm in the area I will be heading to Gore. Hopefully the conditions and trail availability won't be too bad.

I've considered Whiteface but it's a bit further away. Also, my family and I are intermediates at best so I don't think we'd get any more out of going there. It is tempting to go up that way to check out the other facilities, though...

I've heard some positive things about the Adirondacks...looking forward to the trip even if the skiing is questionable.

Loon Sun and Monday. Cannon could fit in if we get a big storm. Waterville if I get tired of Loon.

Renting a house with friends in the wilds of Maine post Christmas. We'll get in a couple/few days at the Loaf, but we'll also enjoy just hanging out in a cabin in the woods.

Heading to bretton woods with my daughter for a couple of day, she loves the views. Wife is staying home to look after the dogs, one of them got spayed and we don't feel its right to have them kenneled right know.

I learned to ski at whiteface and progressed best there because of the challenge of their summit blue runs. It's actually a great mountain for intermediates. But it is a little far from lake george. Worth it only if there is some good natural snow and the summit is open. Otherwise gore will be fun.

instead of taking the christmas week of 12/25-29 off, I always take the new years week off (1/1-5). I find the skiing better. Seems to be less crowded.

Going away for Christmas so no skiing for me for most of next week. I'll be back on 28th, so hopefully I'll spend last 2-3 days of 2006 skiing :)

i will ski right up to the 25th, then only ski if it snows. this is usually a tough week out there, way too many kids, way too many bitchy adults.

Still strange to think about the Sagamore being open in the winter. I grew up on the lake a couple of miles north of the hotel. The resort is topnotch but in the winter Bolton Landing is not exactly a behive of activity. It's more of a summer area. Kmart is only 45min - 1 hr away, Pico alittle closer, you might consider going there.

Maybe I'll escape this drudge and hit Utah in early Jan. Not much to ski around here lately.

Are you sure about the drive? I checked MapQuest and it looked more like 1 hr 45 min...

I figured that the area was more of a summer area...that's most likely the reason why I was able to get a 3-night stay. Still looking forward to the trip even if there won't be much to do...too many of my vacations tend to be "activity packed" anyway.

Last year I went skiing on Christmas Day at Windham - what a scary day! I have never seen so many accidents and out-of -control skiers on the greens. It was much safer to stay on the black trails.
