So we're kicking around getting interweb for the weekend place. We currently have basic cable there and I'm thinking a slingbox may help with that.

I get how it works from the "home" end...slingbox to the router/modem...done. Now, at the receive end, I know you use your computer to get the signal. Is there a way to get the show on your TV? Or is the resolution going to be soo small? Our laptop has a hook up for a monitor, so I imagine it could be hooked up to a newer LCD TV. But could it be hooked up to an older tube TV? This being our weekend place, we don't exactly have it decked out with the latest in AV gear. We have two 10+ year old 27" tube TVs and a 13" tube.

I just want to make sure this is doable. I'd hate to have to drop a ton of money on new TVs, just to get some extra TV channels.

i got one. picked up at good price off ebay. very happy with it. i only use as an extra tv (not integrated with my cable box or dvr). in my experience pic quality is tied to bandwidth. if you are streaming from home in CT to VT then your home internet connection will likely govern how good it looks. in general i'm impressed with the quality but rarely watch anything in full screen mode.

I've got an old GM alternator rigged up as a mini hydroelectric generator in the stream behind the house.

We've got DSL in CT...and the upstream is far from fast. Now I wonder if that'll cut down on the quality.

The TV's are older, but they still have the RCA jacks in the back. The problem is the laptop just has a monitor output. But maybe they make a convertor.

We have a couple hundred of them. Works great on a lan. A little tougher over the internet.

What do you use for internet service where the slingbox would be?

It would be cable. Let me look up the speed. "Economy Broadband 640Kbps/128Kbps" I think it's like $20 a month? The upload isn't anything great, but no big deal since we'd be downloading the sling. Now this just jogged my mem a bit. I want to say our upload speed on our DSL @ home is just a tick or two faster for than the cable. That could be a significant bottleneck.
