so what were conditions REALLY like this weekend after the big storm? did it match the hype?

unfortunately, i was ski-less this weekend.....

We were fortunate enough to have had our vacation fall in the middle of the blizzard. We skied Thurs and Fri in fresh pow. Saturday was probably a madhouse...we weren't there (thank God). Can barely walk now. Look for my report soon.

Good to hear that you landed in time for some snow Trailboss...except for the weekend mob-scene, they're a beautiful bunch of small mountains. If you came over on Rte #2, there are several mountains along the NH border/WMNF...that I'd really like to plant my skis on...that is, if all the blowdowns could be weeded out, although that probably won't happen until the next ice age
I really had a great time this last four days at a local hill, just outside of Bangor....which now has night skiing, more trails, a groomer(somewhere).. and three shifts of part-time (4hr) prices...has really been transformed in the last four years. Was fun to ski a local hill again without having to pull out plastic or see the fuel gauge move.... 8)

I hit Cannon on Sunday, hoping that there would be some snow left.
Well, there was, but you REALLY had to look. The best I found was on Brookside (beginner's area, where I spent some time skiing with my son).

The bumps on the lower slopes leading to the tram were in nasty shape: mounds of loose snow separated by sheets of sheer ice. I did find some creamy fluff moguls just on the sides of lower Rocket and Gary's. The rest of the mountain was quite disapointing given the hype.
Most of the top of the mountain trails that had a "thin cover" sign on them really meant it. Actually, it should have been marked "hard cover" ,like glare ice.

Still, I found enough good stuff to burn up my quads, even by late aftrenoon. The mountain really needs another big dump and it looks like some liquid precip is on the way.
Man, I could really use a week in Taos just about now. :-?
