I see a simple lesson here (for all of us, myself included)...mitchmac said:And honestly, how do I make it a teaching-tool type thing when he did nothing wrong? He knows there's scumbags out there...that's why he locked the board up or was sure someone was keeping an eye on it when it wasn't. What happened was a break-down in communications - his friend thought I was watching the boards, and I didn't know I was.

hammer said:One other thing...IMO it's the thief's fault that the snowboard was stolen. Could mitchmac and his kid have been more careful? Sure, but it's not like they made the thief take it...
And they just can't help themselves, right? :wink:dmc said:making yourself a "soft target" invites thieves to steal your stuff...

You have a valid point, and I think that a lot more AZers will be locking up their stuff all this time (if they aren't already), but maybe the idea of "it's your fault that someone else stole your stuff" is a little harsh...

I think I'm done for now. Thanks for your help and constructive input cnet, wings, hammer and all.

I can live with that statement... :beer:dmc said:If not your fault then at least your responsibility..
hammer said:In any case, you have to feel bad for mitchmac and his kid.

I sure do feel bad for the kid... On a lot of levels..
I hope he gets it back and learns a lesson about responsibility...

Nice one... Teach your kid interpersonal skills too??
Fire Hydrant.. Doesn't even make sense??? But then again you probably don't care about fire hydrants because they are someone elses resonsibility...
In the town that I live in, I've seen the fire department go out and shovel the snow away from fire hydrants...doesn't mean that I won't check to see that the one near my house is clear anyway...dmc said:But then again you probably don't care about fire hydrants because they are someone elses resonsibility...
