But then again you probably don't care about fire hydrants because they are someone elses resonsibility...
In the town that I live in, I've seen the fire department go out and shovel the snow away from fire hydrants...doesn't mean that I won't check to see that the one near my house is clear anyway...

Way to take responsibility... Exactly my point..

You laugh but this is a big issue...

The less people take responsibility for their actions the worse it is for us that ski and ride..

Insurance rates have almost killed the industry... Stupid lawsuits from people that blame mountains instead of themselves are the deathnail...

Just don't let Daddy go crying to the internet if you forget to lock your deck...

Thanks for the reminder...I forgot to lock my laptop today. It would really stink if it was stolen...

In any case, you have to feel bad for mitchmac and his kid.

I sure do feel bad for the kid... On a lot of levels..

I hope he gets it back and learns a lesson about responsibility...

It's like talking to a fire hydrant. Thanks for your input!

Nice one... Teach your kid interpersonal skills too??

Fire Hydrant.. Doesn't even make sense??? But then again you probably don't care about fire hydrants because they are someone elses resonsibility...

Keep going...this is starting to get funny again!

I don't think this is funny at all... Kids that don't get taught responsibility end up bad... I hope that doesnt happen and your kid can learn to accept responsibility in spite of your whining...

You know what, it's not worth it so I'm done after this one. I'm not whining nor have I. I blame myself for the whole situation and no one else. When my friends son walked away I should have said where's the boards but I didn't. I came on here because I felt I had to do something - to take some sort of responsibility if you will - but obviously I was wrong in doing so. I'm sorry to have taken up so much of your time.

IMO everyone on here are being complete a$$h0|_35. Give the guy a break he works hard, buys his kid a snowboard for christmas and in a lack of communication it gets stolen. Now the guy has to live with his son in the worst mood possible and snowboardless. Obviously not the end of the world but still it just flat out sucks.

DMC- i realize you're a regular and everything but get off the guys back, trying to do anything he can to help out his son. If this happened to you I'm sure you would do the same thing

Ill keep an eye out for you and talk to kids about this one, and I think everyone else should do the same and help this guy out.

No I wouldn't... And don't worry - I get on "regulars" cases like this too... This guy was pissy from the moment he posted... He comes on and makes a statement - implying that someone here may have taken his kids board.. You did this and you did that and you should see...... Adds all his emotion about crying and wot-not...

I can't stand that kind of crap...

I don't have kids.. But my Father would've made me take and accept the responsibility.. I break it - I fix it..
Thats all I was saying... And if I would've whined about it my Father would've made it worse for me...

Sorry to hear about your son's board. As a father, I can imagine what you're going though. Even though you weren't responsible, you still feel like you failed your son and that's a horrible, horrible thing.

Do you have any pictures of the board or the serial numbers? I'm sure the good people of this forum would be glad to help monitor ebay, craigslist and any other outlets they're involved with.

I read this completely differently. He's asking for help. He was not pissy or anything until you started the lecture on how he should be raising his child. He was essentially writing an open letter to whomever stole the board

I respect your opinion DMC and think you're an outstanding member of this forum but in this instance, you missed his point completely.

You took the words right out of my mouth...
I am sorry to hear about your son's board getting stolen. Hopefully it will be found but to tell you the truth I doubt it will be. Check out ebay and such. Someone in Colorado a tenn was recently caught selling stolen skis (I think about 15 pairs).
Peace.

Ok, I read all 4 pages of this topic and have to agree with DMC. The matter at hand is that he should have never started the post of trying to track down the accuser. Opening an topic matter on 'has anybody had their gear stolen' and tried to find a best practice for his son.

Additionally, ensuring his son is taught his lesson and responsibility is necessary to ensure this doesn't happen again.

The reason it was stolen is becasue it was a Burton. Its the trendy name in boarding right now. Burton this and Burton that. People steal the names that sell. look on ebay, its all burtons. Hardly any K2, Rides or Arbors.

I dont lock my board (its a K2) but if it did get stollen id be mighty pissed at myself and you bet i would lock it when replaced. I also commute on a moderately priced road bike and its locked 99% of the time and the 1% of the time i take the risk when im doing a quick in and out of a store. A high end road bike is pretty undesirable in the lower/middle class city of buffalo., so i feel ok leaving it for brief moments. If it was a mongoose MTB or something similar im sure id would have been attempted to be stolen by now

My moral: use equipment that is undersiable to theives

AND sorry about the board getting stolen, some people ruin the fun for everyone

I had my bike stolen in Buffalo near Grant and Ashland over by Buff State many years ago. I had a pick proof lock with a vending machine key and this huge case harden chain. Amazing. Who ever did it was a professionsl I tell you. Locks are just a moinor inconvience. If they want it they will get it.

Sorry about the kid that lost his snowboard
