A high end road bike is pretty undesirable in the lower/middle class city of buffalo.
I had my bike stolen in Buffalo near Grant and Ashland over by Buff State many years ago. I had a pick proof lock with a vending machine key and this huge case harden chain. Amazing. Who ever did it was a professionsl I tell you. Locks are just a moinor inconvience. If they want it they will get it.

If some pro theif really wants my bike, they will go through the lock. There was some article in Bicycling Mag a few years ago about a pro theif bike lock test. He went through every lock on the market in less than 5 minutes. Locks keep honest people honest and druggies and homeless from grabbing and running. I live near buff state but i go to UB

OK, enough :argue: folks.

mitch: That really sucks. Sorry to hear that happened. Some good advice (re: watching E-bay, Police, etc). Does Mountain Creek have CCTV cameras? Any repeat offenders that they know about? You'd be surprised who the perpetrators are...the ones I saw at Sunapee recently were local teens that were driving a beat-up car.

I've had stuff lifted before and it is  to say the least. Two years ago, Ms. Trailboss left her helmet at 10e and despite having her name, my name, and phone # written inside it in permanent marker, someone decided it was worth more to them than returning to lost and found. Ultimately though we replaced it with a BRAND NEW one for only $50 and it was the right color. So small loss. But it is upsetting.

Glad you came here to post it. Maybe try some other places like TGR, RSN, etc.

Thanks to those of you who understood what I was trying to do here. I picked a place that I thought a Mountain Creek kid might come to look at a forum, and maybe he knew or knew of somebody who might have done something like stealing the snowboard. At no time was I in any way accusing anyone here of stealing it, nor was I even going to post anything further. I answered a question, and then when dmc started in on me, my kids lack of responsibility, and my parenting skills I had to step back in. For his purpose, I'll say it again: I consider myself, as the adult present, responsible for the loss of the snowboard. As far as my son was concerned, he thought his best friend and/or his father was watching his board. Under the same situation, I wonder if dmc would have trusted his best friend and father. If not, I feel bad for him.

As far as CCTV or any kind of security cameras, I was told Mountain Creek doesn't do that because "there are too many places where someone could put a snowboard and we couldn't monitor them all". I guess as long as it's not their stuff getting stolen, right?

As I said from the start, I know this is a long shot but I felt the more I did the better the chance (from zero to real slim?) of getting the board back.

Thanks twintips, I appreciate everything you've said. And I know dmc's gonna come back here and 'hammer' me on something else I've said, but you know what, if that's what make you happy knock yourself out.

I bought my son a new pair of skis last year. He loves them as much as your son loved his board, I'm sure. Sun night we were skiing and the place was empty. Took a bathroom break and were temped to not lock the skis. Instead of locking we took turns using the facilities.
I grew up in an area where we NEVER locked our doors. Had a pair of old skis stolen once. It is a jaw dropping experience. Similar scenaro; 5 minutes and they were gone.
Bottom line; even though I am often tempted, I NEVER leave my skis unlocked or unwatched. ANYWHERE! I bet your son never will again either.
In the short run, it really sucks! In the long run, it's an inexpensive lesson compared to what Ivy League Colleges charge for an education.
I realize that your son thought someone was watching his board. In the future he will KNOW someone is watching it! Or make SURE that it is locked.
I hate that there are scumbags like that out there who would steal a board. But there are.
I learned my lesson. I ALWAYS lock up my skis. From what I hear about MC, I bet that your son's board wasn't the only one stolen that day.
Blue Mountain in PA had a similar problem and I can only laude their management philosophy; they started a FREE, NO TIPPING ALLOWED ski check. I think that all of the crooks then moved over to MC.
Keep your eyes on ebay and craigs list. If you don't find the board, at least you may find a replacement at a good price. Just make sure that it wasn't stolen as well!

While on the subject of stolen boards at the Creek, I have a friend who locked his board for 5 minutes to go to the bathroom, went back and found a cut lock(his board wasn't even a very expensive one). The next day he was snowboarding(on an old snowboard) saw his board being riden by another kid. Went on the lift talked to the kid, asked him where he got his board he said Macaffe ski shop, but my friend knew a distinct mark on the board and the serial number. Followed the kid to his car but they took off and he wrote down the licsnese plate number. Called the police and it turns out the kids dad was the cop who came to the scene (vernon police) so he could basically go nowhere with it and had to let it rest.

Also I heard a story of many pairs of skis being stolen when there was a ski team dance MC. Someone came along and swipped all the 900$ skis sitting outside because there was a race prior to the dance.

What?

If I saw that situation, I'd ask to have another officer come out...no way would I let a kid get away with something like that just because his dad's a policemen.

Maybe they're concerned that someone would try to hold them responsible since they did have "security cameras"...

BTW, mitchmac, did you ever think your first post would be so popular?

I understand he should have asked for another officer but he's just a kid and was scared over the whole thing. His dad called the police later that day and still made no progress on the situation.

I'd have to say that the free ski/snowboard check at Gunstock is a nice touch.

Sucks to get a board/ski stolen but for what its worth...MC does offer FREE board/ski check to Season Pass holders on weekdays and $1 on weekends. Too late for your purpose but for the future its something to keep in mind.

Now I understand...thought an adult was involved with the police to start with.

In general, though, that's total BS...gotta love small town politics.

LOL...Not at all Hammer!! But I'm glad it was. I've gotten some good advice and tips, and have found a truly active board that I hope to contribute more to in the future. You guys are OK in my book!!

If you're reading this you know who you are. You removed my 13 year old son's most favorite possession from in front of the Mountain Creek snowboard shop at around 6:30 this past Saturday night. It was a Burton Blunt snowboard and was the only thing he had asked for this Christmas. I wish you could have been around to see the look in his eyes when he realized it was gone. It broke my heart, and if you have any feelings it would have
broken yours too. I'm 48 years old and I'm crying as I write this.

Here's the bottom line, though. I would like nothing else except to get him back his snowboard. I know it's a long shot, but I figured I had nothing to lose by posting here. I am offering a $250 "finders fee" for the return of the snowboard - no question's asked. No police, no nothing. I give you $250 cash, you give me the board, you leave, I leave. Simple as that. Send a friend in your place if you want. The important thing to me is to get that snowboard back in his hands. That's all.

You can e-mail me at mitchmac22@aol.com. Any and all information will be kept strictly confidential.

Mitch I hope you stick around as well. As for DMC, though I have never met him personally, I can vouch that he is an outstanding member of this community and his posts are always insightful and helpful.

Just take a second to re-read your initial post. You can kinda see why perhaps some members took umbrage when you start out by saying "you know who you are". I would like to think the a$$holes who took your son's board do not frequent this forum.

That being said I sincerely hope you find your son's board. We are season pass holders of MC and live in Sussex County. I am going to have my daughter read these posts and hopefully others can learn lessons about board/ski security. And how to get along!!!!

Wow, that took so long to read I can't even formulate a reply yet to any of it.

I need a nap.

Oh, and welcome aboard Mitch. Stick around, we're a unique cross section of society for sure.

Thanks Phil!

And your right, Gore. I guess I kind of had that composed in my head hoping to find a "Mountain Creek Snowboarders Forum". This was pretty much the only one I could find that was even close to that and I just kinda went with it. Trust me, by the look and feel of this web-site and forum, and by the various posts I've read, I wouldn't really expect to find someone who's in the business of ripping off snowboards in here. Apoligize if that came out the wrong way.

Is this the Burton Blunt that gotten stolen from your son?

Any other markings like binding color? Any reason why you don't want to post the serial number here. You can PM me the serial number if you don't want to post it here. Seriously I will look for it this weekend.

BTW buy another one and put it out fron of the same lodge as bait and watch the bastards with some of your big friends. If you got some cop friends even better. Bring lots of cameras and post their picture on the internet. Stuff like that. Then buy the thief a one way plane ticket to the middle east for further interogation.

I know that State Police sometimes run sting operations at various resorts where they setup bait and watch for someone to steal it.

The one that was stolen was a 151, so the markings are a little different. You can select a picture of it from that same page. It had white "Cartel" bindings on it, 2 Grenade stickers on the front: 1 the big 8 inch skeleton hand grenade, and another one that looks like the Air Jordan logo except he's holding a round grenade. On back, there was a small Phish sticker (and maybe one other grenade but I'm not sure about that). I have pictures at home, but of course they were from before the stickers.

As far as the serial number, I'm not sure how much use it would be to anyone. Believe it or not, Burton puts the serial number right where the back binding goes so the binding covers it once it's on. Ingenious, right?

I wasn't sure to post it anywhere as I wasn't sure how much good it would do anyone where it's located. I also didn't want to take the chance of someone saying I got it, I'll meet you behind the Target, and then going there to find a dozen hoodlums waiting in ambush. I have no problem pm'ing it to anyone on this board though. Let me know if you think it'll do you any good.

As far as the whole issue of stolen snowboards/skis, etc. it amazes me to little attention is paid to it. I walked into a local store that sells used boards and asked if they checked serial numbers to see if they were stolen - their response, "check them against what?" I didn't even bother to ask about boards brought in for service. The snowboard was stolen on Saturday - I called MC about getting a copy of the report and they said I could get it by the end of the week - from the Vernon PD because MC brings over all their weekend reports mid-week. And on and on. This whole thing has been eye-opening to say the least.

Ok, ive only read pages 1,2, and 6 so if I refer to anything that sounds off, you now know why.

There is a stolen database, its in my head soon to become real - for those of you the couldnt remember.

DMC - shut up, you have a point but thats the kind of thing you save until the dust settles.

mitch - i hate to say it, but its probably gone. Good luck, they just made a big bust out west, maybe you'll be lucky too. Also, stop makeing posts like you do. Post more like you want to buy one...then you can ask for pictures and see if its yours. The call the police.
