Has anyone tried Geo Caching? I read about it once and it sounded neat but I don't have a GPS unit yet.

The general premis is that you get some GPS coords from a web site and you go there. You will find a little "cache" of stuff. You are supposed to take something and leave something. The stuff is not the point, the trip is. Sounded like fun and something a family could get into.

Anyone tried it? Heard of it?

Yup, Have a GPS, but haven't actually done it yet. I'll dig through my bookmarks, I know I have a few sites dedicated to it.

there is a site geocaching.com that is the best in my opinion. there is stuff to find in every state and county
Some of the directions to sites are too easy/descriptive. There are a few listed near my home, and I found half of them without the use of a GPS (don't even own one). But it is something I'm going to get the little ones into in a couple of years.

Similar but different is Letterboxing. You find caches by directions only, no coordinates. In the cache is a rubber stamp and a log book. You stamp the log with your personal stamp, and use the box's stamp in your own personal record book of letterbox sites. Never done it, but on my list of "what are we gonna do today" activities.
