I have skied three times so far this season and two of those days were soft spring conditions. I use early season to get in shape for a early trip to Snowbird but this year I have found it to be hard on the legs to put a full day in. Any one else feeling the legs going away sooner than normal or is my age catching up with me??

You're not alone. I thought I gave a decent effort trying to get in shape this fall and nope. Lynx has been kicking my ass

I had a great spring day at Killington today. Skied 10-3. I could have lasted longer, but there was no reason to overdo it. My little guy was gassed, but of course would never admit it!

74 degs today in Wash DC area. Even the mtns down here won't see below freezing nights for about another week, maybe Dec 19th. Going to be a scramble to make snow in time to open the areas down here for Christmas.

Oh yeah. First day out. Getting heavy and bumped. I bike but I was still feeling it in my thighs. Feels good though. Nice day out there.

These conditions will do more to get you in shape for Snowbird than hard groomers will by far. I still ha entry gotten out and am dreading how fast I'm gonna be gassed. School work consumed my preseason conditioning.

Felt great skiing two days in a row last week.

Hope to do three in a row this week.

Picked up right where I left off.

Open terrain wasn't as challenging as would like.

@JimK, I have serious doubts that the any of the resorts local to you, which are my resorts as well, will be able to open by Christmas. Even 7Springs which has elevation over my local hill roundtop. has not been able to make snow...

Snowmaking has been very elevation dependent, even in VT., NH, ME. so far. The old air hog guns seem to have an advantage over the new low e-guns. I'm sure it cost more to run the old hogs though.

I didn't realize Snowshoe, WV opened on Friday Dec 11, 2015. They are the only show in town down my way right now (no places within three hours of DC have any snowpack yet):

The summit of Snowshoe's trail layout, including terrain above is at an elevation of ~4848', gives them a big edge over places closer to DC which have summits only about 1000-3000' elevation.

I can't think of a month between Oct. and June that have not included warm days and spring skiing. The only thing unusual about this December in the "snow making era", has been the absence of sustained snowmaking weather. That being said, the start to this season is unusual, but not unprecedented. (1979-80 comes to mind.)

I'm pretty sure that was the year that Cannon didnt open until mid January. And it was only halfway up the old Hong Kong chair.

Conditions were actually better Thanksgiving weekend which is when the race is scheduled for next year.

Very true. And don't forget, Killington has already said they will import firepower for the race to not interfere with normal expansion. I think they would have pulled it off given this year's weather. I hope they won't have to deal with anything of the like next season.

Count on it.
Killington's chief concerns for the World Cup next November will not be weather related.
