Are these two FATMAPs mislabeled, it looks like the one called “Smugglers Notch Crossover” going from Stowe to Smuggs is actually Snuffy’s, and the one labeled “Snuffys” is actually the Sterling trail from Smuggs back to Stowe ?

yep. They're reversed. Also, Sterling (their Snuffy's) crosses the frozen pond unless you're really into x-country.

I guess if you enjoy completely ruining a pair of skis, have at it. Definitely not my cup of tea

I'd be curious to ask the owner why they haven't trimmed that even just a little bit more.

I'm not suggesting they turn it into Doc Dempsey's or anything like that, but they certainly could make that a lot more fun and still maintain integrity of one of the most challenging on map tree runs in the east.

Maybe it's the whole triple diamond thing

This is a link to that podcast interview of the Smuggs owner. It was a good listen, I believe he was asked about the blackhole and said that he had never skied the run if I remember correctly. In any event, I don't think any amount of tree clearing is going to make that top section fun. The area appears to be steep and rocky enough that snow will never grab to it unless they get a Alta Snowbird level snow year.

yeah weird video to post online. Then again unless you are really friggen good at skiing, that is likely what skiing that run is like. Doesn't seem like much fun, so as I said I'm thankful for seeing how it likely skis for most people. I guess we can call it a PSA :ROFLMAO:

lol what a funny video

I have skied black hole

I am 99% sure this goober approached completely wrong. He makes a right off lift line and then a very quick left into unmarked trees and it is all bushwhacking. He should have gone straight more after turning off lift line and then made a left and he would have wound up in a much more normal but steep glade, that leads to a cliff section that is about 8-10 feet wide. This guy skied the bushwhack between lifeline and blackhole. Poorly.

His commentary is hilarious…
2 mins: Not too bad so far, narrow but I can do it (can you though?)
2:30: This is where I got stuck with ski patrol (so you tried this before…)
3 min: Oh shit theres a tree there (think there’s trees everywhere bud)
3:10: We’re doing this…We are DOING THIS (definitely doing something)
Also 3:10: This is insane (got that right)
3:22: Worth it but this is like an 80 degree angle (think you need to go back to geometry class)
3:40: Sitting down and I’m not ashamed of it
4:10: Holy mother of God this is something else
5:10: This truly is a triple black
6 (my favorite comment): I skied it on my ass and I’m not afraid to admit it 😂

Good for him for trying and documenting it.

I will never like tight trees....it's why I prefer western glades.
They have tight trees too and damn steep! Skied a line skier's left of Rambo at CB last year, tons of snow but a ski length wide. So steep it was a blast as jump pivot turns were a breeze with the pitch. It actually got harder at the bottom where the pitch let up making the same jump turns harder.

Yes that run is fantastic, skied it for the first time this year. You would like the Anchor glades at Deer Valley as well.

Skiing/riding was so much better before GoPro inspired "courage" runs to boost one's social media perceived credibility, since most of the Go Pro POV camera stuff that's out there belong way more on Jerry of The Day than any decent skiing/riding social media account

What do you mean by courage runs? Runs that are above people's ability, for the views? I see much more clout runs, unmarked trails etc. to get views. Although the majority of social media skiing is freestyle fwiw.

It seems to me, that there are many people, who are attempting terrain that is far above their ability (and they know it), and when they do so, they often have a GoPro on them to document it.

I wonder if it wasn't for the GoPro if they would still attempt the run? At somepoint the serious safety issue should outweight the social media dopamine rush that they may get from getting a bunch of likes. Since I think we all have had experiences where we're on some tough/technical terrain and you encounter someone who shouldn't be on that same terrain, and often not only do they lack the skills to be there, but often they lack the proper ettiquette that you need to have when on steep, technical terrain such as follow too close, that also can affect the saefty of others. The reality is that I am not as concerened for the safety and well being of someone who makes a poor trail/run selection and is in way over their ability as I am if I am also on that same run/trail at that time and they compromise my own safety and well being. I've been taken out from above far too many times over the years on steep terrain by folks who shouldn't of been on that same terrain and had no clue that you NEED to leave more space between folks also on that terrain, and frankly it takes way longer to recover from a hit like that than it used to.... Just another "joy" of the aging process ;):ROFLMAO:

I've watched some very interesting videos of Stowe side country and the chutes coming down from the top of mansfield...
It's why I declined an invitation to do it...
