Date(s) Skied: Wednesday, 3/5/2008, 9:00 am - 1:00 pm
Resort or Ski Area: Sugarbush Vermont
Conditions: 3-4" sleet, mix of snow, sleet and rain.
Trip Report: Well, well, well. Gotta love when a day you think is going to be a 2 turns out to be an 8, which is actually more like a 10 since you initially thought the day was going to be a 2!
Second chair on Bravo this morning. First run was Jester to Lower Organgrinder. After my first turn I knew the day would be a great one. The sleet accumulation overnight covered everything up nicely. Next run - Murphy's (awesome) to lower Birdland, awesome smoothed out bumps. Then hit Moonshine, then Twist. Both fantastic! Even skiing other skiers tracks resulted in good edgeable snow, although there really weren't that many people skiing today. Next run, second tracks down the Mall. Fantastic bumps!
Then time to hit Castlerock - CR Run and Middle Earth. Both sweet bumps. The sleet covered up all the nastiness and the crust. Skied down to Bravo to meet pops-in-law. Found some nice woods to connect from Organgrinder over to Lower Ripcord. The higher elevation woods are skiing fantastic! Took a cruise down Upper Jester with Dan and bid farewell to him. Joe and I then went back to the summit to hit Paradise which was well, awesome! Finished up on some woods off Lower Jester. Still plenty of base on the mountain and the sleet made everything skiable again.
Sleet most of the early morning. It was dumping on our last two chair rides on Heaven's Gate. We were greeted with plain rain on the lower 1/3 of the mountain on our way in. All in all, a fantastic day and waaaaay better than expected. Love it when that happens!
Wind is picking up and it seems like the rain is just about done right now. I think the upper elevations will still ski well tomorrow. Joe and I plan to mostly hit the woods off Upper Jester and Ripcord. Maybe we'll explore Paradise woods.
