Ok! Here's the no BS answer! I like South better, and I love skiing Stein's and Snowball and Spring Fling in the Spring! And, since I am the majority owner, I am pulling ownership privilege and picking the part of the mountain that I like best! You may disagree, but there has to be some benefit to owning a ski resort. So, come ski or ride with me for the next month. I am really excited to get a lot more runs in before we call it a season!

;-)

Mmmmm....Nice soft corn on Stein's. I'm going to take you up on that!

I love it! I'd do the same thing if I owned an area. Ofcourse, my mountain ops manager would have to threaten to commit me to a nut house as if I owned a place, I'd be blowing snow so deep on a trail that I could ski in July.

.....and run the place out of business doing so

I also hope they stay open into May. I loved the warm mushy corn bumps at our neighbor to the south that has opted to close early. So come one come all and ski often!

Good stuff Win, thanks for posting! I figured there was more to it than just wanting to make use of the new base area. ;)

Maybe I'll make it up there for some spring turns this year, I don't think I could keep up with you though..

Respect. you should learn the value of it sometime.

Right, and joking or not, it's hard to get that tone right in an internet forum. Too easy to be misunderstood.

I've met Win of course, although I don't know him personally. I couldn't be happier to have Sugarbush as my local mountain though. Between nature's gifts and Win's excellent stewardship, I feel very, very lucky both as a skier and as a local business owner. And to have the excellent people at MRG just up the road as well...

This would be true if it was ever done, but it wasn't. It was always downloading on the GMX and skiing FIS because thats where the snow was made (which gets old real fast)...It may hold snow better but the more recent configuration offers more terrain and no downloading.

I've also skied on manmade frost in October at the top of Mt. Ellen in the early ASC days as a publicity stunt. I believe Doug Lewis and the Egans were there. Going to GMVS had some perks, hah.

There is NOT more terrain variety available at LP in the spring (I would argue that there's not anytime). If the operation was done properly at Mt. Ellen, even in a bad year, you could be open down to the bottom of North Ridge, with a minimum of FIS, Rim, Elbow, and Cruiser open. On a good year, you could see Black Diamond, FIS, Rim, Elbow, Lookin' Good, Bravo Exterm, Cliffs, Encore, Cruiser, North Star, and possibly another trail or two open through mid-April, depending on snow depth. The exposure is better, the venue is better, the snow depth is better, the skiing is better, the elevation is better. My humble opinion, of course. My apologies to those of the other spring skiing persuasion. I had a blast skiing Stein's last spring. I won't lie. But I had at least twice the fun ripping FIS and then chilling on the Glen House deck the year before.

Regardless, Sugarbush is indeed the King of Spring. Win will put on a good show again this year, I'm sure. He always does! But Win... tell Hammond and Wing I said to keep the cats off of Stein's

BushMM,

The altitude must be clouding your memory. You told me you liked the half trail grooming we did on Stein's last Spring. We should be skiing and riding until at least April 20th and maybe the next weekend and ?. Check out the April Fool's special available only on the Blogs!

We might get some decent snow tomorrow! 41st annual pond skimming at noon on Saturday and then final Sunday bash at ME. Sorry you will miss the Spring in the East. It will be great!

Oops, I did say that, didn't I? Well... if you've gotta groom it, half is better than whole!

I am sorry as well that I won't be there to celebrate some of the best spring skiing anywhere. Oh well... there's always next year, and the next year, and the one after that, and hopefully a few more following that. I'll just make sure dad skis a few extra bumps for me!

But I certainly wish you the best this spring, as always. I hope there's still some white up on FIS when I get back. I should be able to hike all 2600 vert pretty quick down in the lowlands of Vermont (after living at 10,000 feet for a while).
