So it's four o'clock, Pico is closed tighter than fort Knox, the sun is still high (thank you DST) so it's a couple mile gauntlet up the road to SS for a look see. The front face is short but very steep, the pics are deceiving. The lifts looks like a totally retro experience (a-la Black) but it is reminiscent of a day of very easy-going skiing. The lodge was very well invested in, so nice I had to snap a photo. I've still got to ski there, haven't yet. I have to do Whaleback too.

Here you go.

difficult to get a photo of the steepest, the sun was right over it.

They have always been open to the public. You may be thinking of Bear Creek which is as you describe.

Although Bear Creek is private, they still offer some limited passes to the public. We went there last year and a spectacular day . . . we hit freshies on a Sunday afternoon from 2 days ago.

I always wondered where the name of the place came from. A little morbid dontcha think?

It all started as a joke as I understand. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suicide_Six
There is a lot of history at this place, being one of the first "resorts".

p.s., there were a lot of sick toboggan runs nearby. Saw three kids sitting atop one of the hills setting up. It looked freaking scary given all the ice in the area.
