This is the double pole plant as demonstrated by the very French Remy Lecluse. Remy is one of the extreme skiers that died in the Manaslu slide recently. Dan Egan isn't even mentioned. At least I don't think he is.

This is a truly classic clip...the fracturing cornice. Love it!
Dan is certainly a soild skier and has made a career calling himself extreme skiing pioneer.Having said that I have never been that impressed with his skiing style/technique.I skied with him a few times when he worked out of Cannon Mt and of course is a very good skier but it used to bug me watching him ski steep terrain and double pole plant on one side.
Thanks for this.
In the Goodman book, there's a portion there where they talk about a turn that Brooks Dodge invented to ski in Tuckerman. He called it the "dipsy doodle" where he planted both poles then pivoted on the tips of his skis. If I recall, this was his preferred technique in the steeps and narrows when he needed to make precise turns. I could not envision it until I saw this video. If it works for Dodge, Lecluse and Egan, it must be worth trying.
Also, if you watch The Edge of Never, Anselme Baud spends a lot of time teaching the young Kye Peterson how to make precise turns in steep terrain. I haven't seen the film in while but it sounds like this.
