Date(s) Skied: Thanksgiving 11/26/2006
Resort or Ski Area: Sunday River
Conditions: Crispy at 8:00. Softened as the day went on. Below the midstation had 1/2 mile of mud that was less than desirable
Trip Report:
I got there for a couple of minutes after first chair. My first couple of runs on the upper part of Locke on T2 and Sunday Punch kinda sucked. T2 was groomed refrozen sludge. Sunday Punch was ungroomed refrozen sludge. T2 got enough traffic that it softened fairly quickly. The racer dudes put in a course on skier's left. WTF is up with that at a time when there are so few acres? Sunday Punch had thin cover areas where you had to ski the ribbon but you didn't need to worry about hitting anything. As the day went on, it became kind of fun skiing it at speed. At the base, it was totally socked in. The cloud layer was at the midstation and the top was nice & sunny.
I skied until 11:00. I opted to ski out ignoring the 'walking required' sign at the midstation. The snow ran out less than half way down lower Sunday Punch and it was a pretty lengthy slog down to the base. November hasn't been kind to the lower mountain at Sunday River or Killington. I need to wash down my skis & boots. My bindings look like I had an encounter with a mud monster.
