I'm all for expansion at sundown. I want a halfpipe I can ride without having to ski like Simon Dumont. I understand it's not the best time economically to spend money, but it's good to talk about and get ideas out there.
I still feel devil carts would work good at sundown in the summer. They are more fun and cheaper to set up then an alpine slide. For people who don't know what devil carts are they are like big wheels for adults with air filled tires that are powered by gravity only. If you don't know what a big wheel is then I pity you fool. Maybe throw in a portable climbing wall as well.
It seems like a waste to me to have an area like sundown not being used in the summer.

Summer business is a tough one for ski areas because if they are small it is almost better to shut it up and not have anything going on in the summer except for weddings and meetings. There are operational expenses that are incurred in summer...and in bad weather years, like this one, it can mean paying people to stand around and load empty chairs.

times two...when it snows at Sundown...do they leave any non-bumped runs ungroomed for people to enjoy the freshies??? Feeling solid bumps under some fresh Poe is not the best..that's where the snowsnakes hide..

Last year, they left the majority of stuff alone after the few storms we had. but with the limited terrain and hordes of people, its gone in a hurry.

Jake and I got lucky with a couple of untracked runs in 8" powder on Gunbarrel one day last season. that was pretty nice :)

I don't know what the skier visit number is. It would be interesting to know. I do know the place is pretty damn successful though so breaking even+ is usually a given.

As far as improvements, I thought last year was pretty damn good with bumps all season but one day from opening day in November right through closing day in late March. Wouldn't mind seeing them make it into April for a weekend or two, even on just a burnt out bumped up Gunbarrel, but besides that I would gladly take a repeat of last season.

They need some bigger bumps for next year........I would hesitate to call those moguls.

Not many would hesitate to call you an idiot, however.

Ha. Owned.

I almost agree with Highway Gnar a little bit though. I do think some of the seeding was in retrospect too tight just like mondeo Moseley said when they started. Take a look at the first few seconds of this video:

That was before those few money lines set up when the big ripper crew came down the next weekend. Notice where those lines set up was where the slightly more spaced out bumps were along the tree line. Now I guess it could be argued that the better skiers are skiing along the trees, but I have to imagine the seed spacing had something to do with it. In any event, I think if they seed slightly "looser" we might end up with many more of those money lines with bigger bumps, and they'll get Gunny seeded quicker.

Still, those little ripper bumps were fun as hell. And now I'm jonesin' for some Gunny bumps. Stinger hopefully in November though...

The bumps on Gunny were tiny to start and average sized by the end. the fun factor was through the roof though.

but highwaystar is, always has been and will always continue to be a douchebag. the minute you think he's trying to engage in anything remotely resembling a normal conversation, he'll turn around and kick you in the shin like the petulant little child he is.

are u guys still talking about snow??? its july!

....just kidding

as for sundown comments, i think the whole gladed skiing there is possible, it just might not happen every year or only a few days. area 51 is clearly the spot for it to happen, as far as i know. it would require a lot of clearing so that minimal snow is required for it to open/be skiable. maybe a few of u should move a snow gun or 3 and point it over there :-o. i would compare it to the superstar woods at K, where snowmaking allows those trees to be skied very deep into the season.
