Replying to myself... ski report suggests Stinger is no more. Crap. My usual love for Sundown is really being tested.

Report also notes noreaster and temptor ungroomed-- anyone there last night to report on whether any worthwhile bumps there? I'm willing to take one for the team tonight if there is ANYTHING there to work on skiing in. But if it is just scattered mounds of snowboard scrapings in between boilerplate I am out.

Hey Bud,

I skied the night shift last night. Stinger was opened and the bump area was still there, though icy at first, it did powder up a bit more as the night progressed. There wasn't a ton of ski traffic, tons of boarders using it as a pass-through to the park below.

It was nothing like the videos in the trail reports though(in our trail report section here on this site for 12/20 Sundown). Only bits and pieces had powder like that.

Snow was blowing all over the hill.. windy.. and I would expect some of that ice covered up by now, as it was getting covered last night.

Don't get me wrong here, it was good skiing over all, and once that run opened a bit after 7pm, its the only run I hit all night.. stayed until 9:45....

Re-read this thread, and it would appear that Temptor is opened for us to work on making our own bumps...?!!?

Pick the phone up and call the place... ?!!?

Yeah, you're right. I always see people trying the bumps. Saw some glorious wrecks yesterday afternoon too. Having bumps within sight of the lift was great! :lol:

As nice a pitch that Stinger has, it really wasn't a great place for moguls with the park rat traffic. I think it was an experiment and all along they said once Gunny is open, those bumps are history so no surprise there. I'm just glad I got in a solid session on them under great conditions while they were there.

Don't get down on Sundown. We have more bumps, more often and sooner than we ever have in the past. And honestly, what's the next best option for good moguls? A 2-3 hour trek to Vermont or maybe Hunter.

Can't speak for Temptor or middle Nor'easter, but Canyon Run before the flats had some deep loose snow and bumplets along the left side late yesterday afternoon. It's my understanding that they'll re-evaluate later tonight and possiblly seed Temptor overnight tonight if things don't look promising. I think broad sweeping push piles is probably a safe bet though.

Yeah-- not really down on them ... just disappointed with the timing of the transition- we do get a LOT more love on the bump front than most, let alone most small areas. Just happens that the transition period coincides with my last shot at turns for over a week as I will be out of commission for x-mas due to travel and was hoping for one more session. Was just starting to get my feel back late sat. night and was finally getting better balanced with a quieter upper body and less spastic hands in front when the lifts shut down for the night. Quick nod to Mondeo for the absorption reminder that began to pay off a bit toward the end...

Yes Stinger has been returned to the park rats. Never fear though there will be bumps on Temptor again soon enough. Bummer that it doesn't coincide with your schedule. Think of it this way, by the time you get back to Sundown the Temptor bumps will be in good shape!

Sounds like Temptor will probably get seeded tonight. Until then I doubt it will be 'snowboard scrapings in between boilerplate'. I guess the top part of Temptor is a little rough, but the bottom part is nice. The sketchy top part will probably keep traffic down, which on the plus side means it won't be all scrapped off, on the down side means there probably won't be enough traffic to form any natural bumps.

Keep the faith, the Sundown crew is putting a lot of work in the bump product, and I for one really appreciate it! I'll be picking up some beer for the crew as a sign of my appreciation soon, but I think I'll wait until after Kurt seeds again, just in case. :beer:

Kidding. If you can seed say, halfway down into the lower flats on Temptor, that would extend the bump length a bit. Might be silly moguls down there, but better than nothing. Whatever Kurt did on the far skier's left side of Stinger is a good model for bump spacing. That line was epic yesterday. It seemed tighter to the right which never really got skied in.

Got a race clinic tomorrow night, but maybe we'll be done in time to check it out. Wednesday night anybody?

what about going back to Nor'Easter bumps? i didn't hang here(or sundown) much when that was the dedicated bump trail but i skied it this weekend and to me it seems to have good pitch (albeit not as steep as temptor's steep section) but felt longer than temptor..

It was cool, but I prefer Temptor for the pitch, and as a black diamond rated trail, I think it's more suited to bumps. It was a tad bit longer, but not worth sacrificing the pitch IMO.

I am with you on this, I preffered NE as the bump for the added lenght. The down side is that it would be hard to hold a bump comp on NE becuase its not straight and would be hard for judging

BTW, if we take out the moguls from the sun deck to the merge out of the equation (since that's pretty much the same regardless of whether Lower Nor'easter or Temptor is seeded), Lower N'E is a whopping 100 feet longer than the Temptor "headwall", at least according to Google Earth. Again, to me, not worth sacrificing the better pitch for that much gain in length.

100 feet could be as much as 6 to 8 row of bumps. Pat told me once that he counted that there are only 14 turns in the bumps on temtor. So lower NE would almost be 50% longer. For the record I will be just fine with Temptor bumps as long as we get one kicker.....hint hint :wink:

Nor'Easter with TTB bumps because you can't discount the top section.. you bump up the whole right side for a continuous run rather than the left going to temptor with the break in the middle. then you hit the flats for drills and then jump back into Exhibition bumps for the finish.

I am heading up there for a little night skiing tonight. When they are seeding new bumps, do that do it after 10pm or do they close the trail during the night skiing slot for maintenance? I would love to have 15 of 15 at my disposal for day one on the slopes.
