heh, c'mon Zand. i skied once in june and once in july, it was awesome but it wasn't that much more skiing that it really tied me over any more than most folks. not seeing how that has much to do with my post any ways. just saying relax... it'll get here when it gets here (i am starting to sound like BobR i think, heh!). i am excited about ski season too! very much looking forward to the first snow fall  but i can't see obsessing about 1+ week forecasts.

Yep, and most of us skiied 0 times in June and 0 times in July. I'll bet 90% of the board was even done by early-May. It was a joke anyway. I'd ski in July if I could, although I wouldn't be so crazy about that hike just for a 200' patch.

I would, actually I would rather do that then ski k-mart on opening day on a patch of ice with a 100 other people

Here are some pictures of a large "patch":

These pictures are from Mount Hood in September 1988, the second picture is of my brother (nice shirt). 1988 had an incredibly warm summer and it was 106F in Portland, 100F at the lodge and 99F on Palmer when we were skiing, yuck.

Where is whiteface??

I know you're a kid, but you have at least heard of the 1980 Olympics, right? That's the place.

And uh, kid? Unless youre like 50+ or something, I dont think kid would be the right term for someone in High School.

I'd beg to differ. The main K-Mart base is at 2500' while K-Peak is at 4200' - a difference of 1700'. Moreover, if they follow recent practice, they'll wait until they can open up something all the way to the main base area instead of doing the old upload/truck/ski/truck/download nonsense.

Most importantly, you really need to understand that any specific temp forecast beyond 3-5 days is next to worthless. Please, for your sanity and that of others on this board, don't waste time daydreaming about temps 10-14 days away. You want to start a discussion indicating how the long-range models look promising? That's cool - I'm right there with you. However, discussing the finer points of the AOL 15 day outlook has got to be the biggest waste of time I can imagine.

That wasnt the AOL forecast. I use accuweather and the NWS forecasts. Mainly the reason I use the accuwesther forecasts is to get an idea of what the temps will be like. I wouldnt be caught dead using the crappy AOL forecasts. And I dont use accuweathers close range, for that, I use NWS as I find them very reliable.

Well you clicked the topic there bud.

I would find it hard to belive why they would not blow with highs around 42 and lows around 24.

Would anyone beg to differ??
I beg to differ too. Remember the whole business aspect point I made in the Woodbury thread? I suspect you'll see the mouse blow-out next week, but full-fledged snowmaking to build a base? No. RC is right...the week after the cold snap is just as important as the week of the cold snap.

But I think it's cool people are getting so pumped for the season and I have plenty of bandwidth, C-10... ;)

it's more than just skiing a 200' patch, though that alone really is worth it. it's just being in tucks, a magical place, and the whole adventure and experience.

 kids these days...
:smash: :spin:
hey, i am only 26 but i usually refer to the college aged crowd as kids. freedom of speech my man.

Its all a matter of perspective, when I was in Highschool I didn't consider myself a kid... Now that I'm an old man at 28 I consider college age and below kids too.. ;)

Of course the older crowd still refers to me as a kid, and thats cool those old farts can do whatever they want... ;)

Reminds me of what Carlin said about driving...

Anyone driving slower than you is an idiot, anyone driving faster than you is a maniac.

It really does make perfect sense.

Hee Hee...you guys are funny. I'm 47 and probably act more like a kid than most of you. I hope I never grow up!

When we're kids we wish we were adults, once we're adults we spend alot of time and money trying to be kids.

Yes, as a high schooler, you are still a kid - in my eyes and in the eyes of the law.

And just because you get the 15 day forecast from Accuweather over AOL doesn't make it any more reliable or useful. Seriously, while it's fun to think about the long-term (i.e. beyond 7 days) weather possibilities, pasting the low temp forecast for Day 14 and expressing indignation that K-Mart may not use that alleged window of cold temps to givbe it a go is a waste of time and bandwidth. I clicked on the tpoic b/c I thought there might be some reliable forecast indicating cooler temps in the higher elevations. That's not even close to what I found. Instead, all that was here was uninformed schoolboy daydreaming. Don't get me wrong - I love the enthusiasm and can't wait for the season to come fast enough. But this so-called forecast isn't even worth discussing for another week.
