Great news, folks! Okemo currently has the most terrain open in all of New England! For tomorrow, we will be skiing and riding on 32 trails – that’s over 13 miles of terrain! All that great terrain will be serviced by six chairlifts, including three high-speed quads. With the forecast calling for favorable snowmaking temperatures throughout the week, look for Okemo to have up to 40 trails and 8 lifts ready to go this weekend

The overall pitch at Okemo lends itself well to quick expansion. Tougher to pull off on steeper terrain.

well, really, okemo could have their entire main face open and it could all be deemed one large trail with a bunch of trees in the middle of it. South Face and Jackson Gore are the only somewhat worthwile trail areas on that moutnain.

I skied there alot in my 20's. They made alot of snow and took care of the hill. You have to give them credit for the amount of area they have open. good effort. The rest is up to you and your wallet.

I have skied that trail more than double that of any other trail I've ever been on. From 88 until 94 I was camped out on that trail ALL DAY LONG at least 50 days a season.

Do they seed it nowadays? Back then there wasn't such a thing, but it still usually had great bump lines, especially skiers right near the trees up top. I was also pretty fond of the jump that always seemed to be set up near the bottom that they would take pictures at. My folks still have a few photos of me on the wall going off that.

While my only desire to go back to Okemo is for nostalgia reasons, I do have nothing but fond memories growing up skiing there - especially Sel's Choice. Truth be told, Black Out actually used to be the better bump run, but they started grooming that out around 1990.

I believe its been seeded for at least a few years now. I havent been there since 05, but it was seeded that day. And its perfectly visible from 103 as you head to killington. It was so zipped up a few times last year, that i almost just ended my drive at okemo. One good bump run can keep me very entertained.

Hey Dead, what town did you live in? My best skiing bud grew up in Belmont, and skied everyday after school at Okemo 'cause his mother worked there. I don't think much homework got done in the winter :) I miss those Pomas.....

I have been following along Okemo's trail expansion with a highlighter since they opened, and the increase in mileage since the weekend has been on Village Run, a boring traverse, and Sunburst, Open Slope and Escape, relatively flat green trails.

I like the mountain, but I will wait for Upper and Lower Chief, Noreaster and Jackson Gore to open before I visit.

It's still nice to see 50% more terrain or better opened at most resorts than this time last year.

the reason okemo has the most open terrain is that they continued adding trails while everyone else either stopped or decreased their trails. granted, they do use technology that allows them to make snow above the usual 28 wet bulb, but still.

Okemo is a great place to get your legs back early season and their customers seem a little more civilized and polite..lots of people from Connecticut with Mercedes SUVs...mid-late season when all the VT resorts are 100 percent open..Okemo isn't on my radar..that's when I go to Stowe or MRG

This time last year...or the first weekend of December to be exact..many resorts had to shut down after a brief opening including Killington..we're off to such a wonderful start.
