Timing of this was well planed, wait until prime season pass sales season is over, don't mention it at the "State of the Mountain", then drop it the next day. I could only imagine the reaction John would have gotten at his speech if he said, we have an exciting new product to offer our guests, pay another $2k & cut the brovo line & get free hot chocolate.
I guess if they can collect $550k maybe that will be Johns $ to spend at the Bush, don't see operating this program increases the OH, I'm guessing they will use the old Early Ups card reader.
Agreed. 100% perfectly timed to avoid having to talk about it at the state of the mountain speech. Also well timed after the recent survey to local homeowners.

If you buy the $2k add-on and you are skiing with your wife or kids or friends- can they cut the line with you or will they need their own pass too?

Yea...line cutting privileges (only at Bravo) is pretty much the entire point (other than the private apres lounge which just comes across as douchey and pointless lol). This program doesn't give any early access to the lifts before they open from what I'm reading. I guess you'll get to be the first one(s) up Bravo when it opens at the normal time if you're in that VIP line.

The whole thing is just very poor taste.

You can also buy a single day-pass of this "reserve" access for $199 for a single day! (again as an add-on as you still need to have a pass or lift ticket as well).

Agreed that this was an Alterra idea and it is highly unlikely that someone locally was the one that wanted to do this...
Wait….the line cutting is only for Bravo? That’s lame.

Alterra pulled the same crap at Solitude about 4 years ago when announcing paid parking.

Boy they were really going off on this on Reddit. But haven't these line cutting programs been around in various forms for a while? Maybe I haven't been at the right places at the right time but I can't recall ever being held up more then say your normal ski school class by these programs. I guess if your trying to score powder especially here in the east it could be annoying, but, its not something that's been noticable to me.

The private bar? We have one at Granby Ranch. Its nice however I think I would rather be at Castlerock Pub amongst the folks. We had a really fun afternoon there last season. Some fun people there

They either need their own pass or you can use your 2 daily day passes that are included (an extra $99 per day pass when used).

kind of a paltry return for 2k/person. I actually think a members club would be cool if it was open all the time and had lockers, hot tubs, spa, dining etc. But 2k to get a drink on weekends doesnt do it for me. I wonder what kind of demand there is going to be for this.

I've never been but isn't that a similar concept to Club Ten?

Was thinking the same, though it has been decades upon decades since SB has been referred this way. Like since the Gondi came off of Lincoln era. But seems Alterra may be trying to resurrect that tag name, without the fancy (in its day) lifts 🤣🤣
Exactly. I wouldn't use a 60-year old reference in this case.

So my guess is that Alterra HQ issued an edict to their owned resorts saying that additional revenue generation is needed--perhaps to cover falling IKON revenue and their drunken spending at Deer Valley and Steamboat. Now you are seeing these "last minute" changes at their resorts. For example, A-Basin now is "unlimited" for IKON Base in the early season perhaps to drive more ancillary revenue from F&B, etc. Here, let's say that the target for Sugarbush was to make $500,000 or so more with little or no cost. So the proposal here was this scheme that only requires 250 or so individuals. They probably looked at their demographic data and came up with this idea--it only requires a relatively small group folks to bite and costs little to nothing in the grand scheme of things.

If this was a local idea then it would have been disclosed at the meeting this weekend. But my guess is that this was an order from on high. So much for everyone's hope of local control at Sugarbush.

Stratton has the Stratton Mountain Club, a completely separate lodge that has lockers, separate ski storage, dining, and some parking. There is usually a waiting list to become members. I do not know what it costs to become a member, but popular hearsay says the number is $200k (or more) plus monthly fees. You get the big number back if you leave. If you are a member of the SMC you can also buy the Speed Bear Pass that gets you on the lifts right away. I think it can be used on all the Stratton lifts, but I am not sure. There are so few people who use it that it really is not noticeable. You might be able to buy the Speed Bear Pass if you belong to the Stratton Homeowners Club.

The early access pass is available as a $599 add on to anybody with an Ikon/season pass.

IDK about the A-Basin change. That may be Alterra's response to Vails renewed focus on early season turns at Keystone. Isn't Epic Local pretty much unlimited there? Seems to me that may be the play with A-Basin early season unlimited through mid December (granted Copper does open to public fairly early in November but not as fast as Keystone rolls out given Copper's race training initial focus).

Maybe with A Basin, Alterra is just trying to bait people into up grading their pass especially for the spring season. I know my son always saves his A Basin days for the spring much like several on this board save their Killington days. Get them to taste test it and maybe they buy. Like I said parking will always be an issue there.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the original Mayflower project seperate from Deer Valley? I mean if it was, I think it is more Alterra taking advantage of an opportunity expand (and ship some of the skiing traffic over to the east side of the Wasatch instead of Park City) then "drunk spending". I don't blame them for absorbing that. Much like Vail took advantage of the situation at Park City then absorbed Canyons. The Steamboat expansion? I've only gotten there 1 day in the last 2 years but thought the gondola to the top was a good improvement.

Alterra is mostly on my radar for Winter Park. Obviously a Front Range area that does very well. They got some pretty exciting plans including a Gondola that will serve the town of WInter Park a terrain expansion west of the Cirque. I'm excited.

I only get to the east coast resorts 1 weekend a season (ok Stratton maybe a couple of days more cause its closest to home). Maybe the Sugarbush people need to have a little patience. They did do Heavens Gate and they are improving Stratton with the Tamarack replacement (which is needed). All these places are just so big and complex to run that not only do they need the financial backing but they also can't do it all at once either.
