Did they change the aspect of the Super Bravo lift gate? Used to face perpendicular to the lodge, now it's parallel to the lodge. Is it moveable like that? I woulda thought it's anchored to the ground somehow.
No, it swings out to be perpendicular. They just put it this way because there's no need to swing it out yet. They're also pushing snow around all night and they won't have to move it until tomorrow.

Did anyone see on FB that Base pass people can ski days from now to 12/25 and those days will get you vouchers to ski any of the black out days? Thats BS. It devalues my full pass and only adds to the crowds on holidays.
Wow. That is crazy. I call it desperation. And I would be ripshit if I was a full IKON person. Agreed that it is a ploy to get more people to visit and to keep more IKON pass money at Alterra resorts rather than lose the business to a visit to a non-IKON resort or a partner that has no blackouts (e.g. Copper). The last minute nature of these changes shows that the upper echelon doesn't give a you-know-what in making decisions.

FWIW Solitude last season abruptly announced that IKON Base would be accepted with no blackouts. The announcement was made well after pass sales ended. A lot of locals here who bought the full IKON to have no blackouts were pretty miffed. Alterra did a similar move in 2019/2020 when they suddenly implemented paid parking at Solitude. That got a lot of ire.

Which is why I went with the local pass. No need for an IKON. Rarely do I travel out west and all of the east coast resorts I ski are not IKON. and this year... no blackouts with the local pass. Sure I can't ski south on saturdays, but that's not really a sacrifice is it?
Curious--what was the price difference between this and full IKON (if any)?

Totally agree that it kinda stinks that they are just announcing this now but I do agree that Ikon doesn't have a great east coast option for the base pass.....everything is blacked out which is why it has been so quiet on the holiday weeks/weekends the last few years. The Ikon base is $1,099 today but the epic local is $920 and you can ski everything but Stowe. Basically families make the choice between a $1,500 full Ikon or a Epic Local pass for $900. If I didn't have a full Ikon already, I would just go to a different mountain like Smuggs or Jay those weekends....It is cheaper than upgrading to the full Ikon. You could buy a base Ikon + Indy Pass for less money than the full Ikon pass.

They need to figure out a better option....

I did hear a rumor yesterday about employee skiing/riding today.
"Hey there 'bushers, it's me--I'm just getting off the slopes myself! Just wanted to say that there is a way better option to IKON and one that would have you skiing today at Stowe (again, you're welcome!), and that is EPIC! You ought to try it out!"

I’m sure there are a significant number of locals and homeowners who bought the full IKON primarily to ski Sugarbush. If I were one of those people I would justifiably be upset about the (now unnecessary) extra expense of going full IKON.

I know you both just want to be pissed (and clearly aren't the target market), but again, full ikon pass purchasers are not buying them just to ski an extra few blackout days at the Bush. That is a couple of dozen people at most, but keep acting like this is the death kneel for a multi billion dollar company.

Newsflash: I'm not pissed at all. I ain't got a dog in this fight. Just amused as to the move.

I would bet you are 100% wrong that it is only a "couple of dozen people at most"... There are plenty of Sugarbush regulars/locals that buy full Ikon so they can ski their home resort on blackout dates. There is literally no other choice for these people. While the Sugarbush "locals" pass has no blackouts, it has a restriction that prevents it from being used at LP on Saturdays as long as ME is open. There's many people that don't want that restriction, so they go full Ikon.

Interesting......
Yes...but I'm not quite sure the difference was as substantial prior to all the price increases. I seem to recall it being a bit closer early on (i.e. the increases for the locals pass have been less than the increases for full Ikon as time went on).

And again, you're limited to ME on Saturdays with the locals pass. That's fine for some people, but there are others that don't want to lock themselves out of LP every single Saturday during the majority of the season.

Tell me you know nothing about the business of the ski industry without telling me.

The average passholder skis like 5ish days. Throw on top that average redemption rates for giveaways like these are pitiful (like single digit percentages at best), and this isn't some huge problem you think it is.

But don't let that get in the way of it ruining your ski season before it even starts.

You're right...all those same people I see in my condo complex every weekend and on the mountain are figments of my imagination.

I never said there were 10s of thousands, but it is 100% more than "a couple dozen at most". What the average overall pass-purchaser does is irrelevant to what the average Sugarbush regular/local does. Do you even ski here?

I will short-circuit things before you bang your head against the wall any more. AR is our resident "know it all" who mixes legitimate posts with trolling. He is trolling.....he was targeting me but he will be happy if you take the bait.

They pulled the same bullshit last year and allowed based pass people to ski on MLK weekend,.. and sold it as some sort of DEI thing. I was pissed last year and I am pissed at this move. If they are going to improve the base pass offering, it should be done at the time of sale - not after the fact. I think most people would agree with this.

hes been in the NE for a couple of years now i think. I believe he frequents dartmouth and Jay.

you may be thinking about @raisingarizona . They are both former jaded Jackson Hole (when it was cool) peoples so I can see why you mixed them up.

Regarding the ikon base pass bs. As a full ikon pass holder I agree it is total bullahit to do this after you start selling passes, but also agree it will have very little impact or uptake.

Paid a little over 1100 for my local and a junior local pass. it was going to be north of 1600 for full ikons. Again not worth it to me. And I have no issue skiing north on Saturdays. But I don’t live on or adjacent to south to care.
