I don't own a gravel bike but plan to do a big PMC training ride on the road and maybe a MTB ride. Details are on the Sugarbush web page.
You could easily do these routes on your road bike. Hopefully you don't still ride 23's, knowing you also mountain bike, you might be underbiking in a couple spots but as you well know, the dirt roads are smoother than most pavement!

We have a bigger ride planned with a group . Middlebury to the Lake, Vergenes, maybe up to Charlotte.
My tires are 25. Also the roads over in the Champlain valley are really good were we go.

Nope I own 5 bikes now. Maybe in the future but not now. I Want to upgrade my 8 year old Mountain bike first. Looking at a Pivot or a Ibis. either are going to set me back quite a bit.

So I'm thinking.... if you own 5 bikes, none are a gravel bike and your mountain bike is 8 years old - you need to sell some bikes!!! I know you don't get up here that often so the gravel bike wouldn't get a lot of use. but my big suggestion is to get an e-mtb. They are an absolute blast and make all the hilly trails throughout VT so much more fun to ride - it's almost another sport, one that I think is better! Bikes are expensive - you should pare the herd. I've raced bikes, road, mtb and gravel bikes my entire life. No bike I have ever bought / had made has been as much fun and liberating as my Turbo Levo. Nobody hates e-mtb's more than a mountain biker, so I don't expect many out there to agree - but I follow the fun! If you had one, you would want to go to Vermont year round. They aren't bad for riding the dirt roads either. Kew Vasseur is actually a fun ride now! I really don't miss any of the bikes I have sold. Down to a gravel bike, an acoustic and an electric mtb. My acoustic is the next to go... do you want a deal on a 2018 Scott Spark 700 Tuned? Size large. Talk to me!

back in the day, they said the same thing about fat skis,… now I’m the only one skiing 83mm skis

Shred, I know it must be a blast. I see people on them all the time. But I am not ready to give up just yet. I'm kind of weird. I like the suffering to a point. I actually get up to the MRV about 1 or 2 weekends a month in the summer and fall so quite a bit. I split my time with riding in the Champlain valley and the the MRV on Road bike(my wife doesn't MtB) and I ride with a good crew of locals in the valley on the MTB trails and actually all over northern VT. My health and fitness is still pretty good so I'm going to stay the course. Besides if I was to spend money on something motorized it would be an enduro type motorcycle or a nice sled.

Right where I want to be
Well today I almost quit riding and threw my bike away. I past a runner just before a hill. I was just a mile heading out from my house so just started riding. Got half way up the hill doing 8-9 miles an hour and all of a sudden the runner was next to me. WTF! So i got on it a little but shouldn't have as I really wasn't warmed up and then he caught back up and passed me. Got about 50 feet past me. Very depressing. Wish I had a e-bike :) at that point.

Are e bikes legal on the local trails around stowe / Warren / waterbury ? I haven't been up that way to ride in a few years.

I used to do an annual trip up to do 6 gaps ride, and then hit some trails the days after. Mostly before the e bike proliferation.

E bikes aren't legal on the trail networks I frequent in mid to south VT (although I see maybe they are now at STAB?). No motors means no motors.

While one might not get arrested, the Stowe, Waterbury and Warren trails are officially off limits to Ebikes.

Oh, it's not about giving up - it's another option. I want to sell my Scott so that I can get a Stumpjumper with similar geometry and wheel size to the Turbo Levo so my acoustic bike rides the same as my electric bike and vice versa. Still ride both! And gravel too. I gave up on road biking, in my mind it's too dangerous with so many people on their phones and complex car electronics to distract. I was a huge roadie...

As for trails being off limits, reminds me of the old days when hikers did not like seeing mountain bikers on the trails. Nobody hates e-mtb's more than a mountain biker. It's kinda funny. Folk singers don't like rockers and the rockers don't like the folkies. But in time, I think we will all just get along fine with good old fashioned trail etiquette! Vermont especially is made for e-mtb's. There is so much steep climbing. When going up is actually as much fun as descending, you will fully understand the amount of pleasure this new technology has to offer. It opens so much up to so much fun!

The roads in the Champlain Valley are really quiet with good margins and pavement. We see very few cars. My Ride Saturday was really beautiful and really fun. It's great to spend time with my wife enjoying something she likes also instead of me being selfish with my time all the time.

I don't hate e-bikes by the way. I just think they demish my sence of accomplisment of the climb and faced with that or a gravel bike, the gravel bike is way cheaper. but not before a new mountain bike. ;-)

Because we could see for a mile in both directions and it made for a better picture. We needed photo's to post for her PMC profile.

Hawk - I get it,... part of me feels crappy about myself when I'm passing someone without motor assistance,... but that goes away pretty quick :)

If you are interested in trying it out (e mtn bikes) Sugarbush has a full fleet. That's actually where I got hooked and ended up buying 2 bikes at the end of the season from them at a steep discount. My wife (who is not a mtn biker) actually got into it now.
