Fwiw, several of the mechanics are women, including the daughter of a friend. She has given notice however, and plans to become a Fish & Wildlife Game Warden with the VSP.It depends on what cooincidence you are talking about. They have been looking for guys for the last 2 years. There just is no one out there I was told.
Equipment in the harsh winter condtions have issues all the time. Stowe and Sunday River had lifts fall down and people aren't talking about safety there.
Well, SR's Spruce topple fortunately happened in the middle of the night in the middle of summer. Had that happened midwinter, even overnight, think that would have stuck harder in people's minds. It depends on what cooincidence you are talking about. The SR example is not a good one. If you are talking about Spruce Peak, that was a triple whose foundation failed in the summer (and after an extended wet period I believe). Additionally, Boyne has invested a lot in new lifts there. That's not the case (yet) at SB.Equipment in the harsh winter condtions have issues all the time. I believe I read somewhere on SAM that this may be soon happening.^Agreed. Take a look at the Killington thread about all their lift issues. These big companies should start trade school programs for these more specific type jobs like lift mechanics.
That and the employee housing issue which SB is in the process of addressing.I believe I read somewhere on SAM that this may be soon happening.
Sorry Ducky I should have said People. I actually knew there was at lease one Women working there. I saw her at the begining of the season.Fwiw, several of the mechanics are women, including the daughter of a friend. Yeah, I thought that you might have meant Sugarloaf. Those two incidents were pretty bad. But they were about 10 and 15 years ago. And I can't agree with Sunday River as a place where you would die on a lift.Freudian slip. I meant Sugarloaf when the cable came off the towers and chair fell. Sunday river is not a bad example if you are worried about dying on a lift. The point was that people seldom worry about lifts being safe anywhere.
Only time I worry on a lift is the double at MRG. Imagine a cable detaching at that double pole? Hate that lift. Love taking it though.Freudian slip. Oddly enough, the only place that I have actually been lift evac'd is Sunday River. Twice! Barkah and Spruce Peak. It was over 20 years ago but I did question the safety of the lifts at that time.Yeah, I thought that you might have meant Sugarloaf. Those two incidents were pretty bad.
