How exactly. Whether you run all your guns to cover a run at once or half, you still pretty much need the same acre-feet of snow on to cover the trail. That means the same overall water draw. I guess if you have a limited refill inflow this might have worked IF they had continuous snowmaking hours to do so. Even up high in November, they didn't. So not sure this plan of yours would have produced the better results you think it might have.
If Mad River is running low, can Sugarbush draw water out at a slower rate?

Edit: The snowmaking up high will melt slower than down low at the begining of the season. Plus they're making snow on Gatehouse which has a southeast exposure,

With the current water issue, shouldn't SB use their snowcats to pack down natural snow on the closed trails?

The water for the pond at Ellen comes out of Slide Brook, so the same limitations may not exist.

It would seem logical that they open Castlerock chair ASAP, access from the top of Gatehouse, call it the thinnest cover of all time if necessary and put the usual warning signs up. I can’t figure out what’s illogical about that move.

I was wondering about this too. If they don't have the base down to handle the masses on Spring Fling or Deathspout from Super Bravo then I get it. But how can they not get Castlerock open when MRG is 85% open?

Sort of. The water for the pond at ME comes from the two brooks either side of Inverness that then make Chase Brook that flows by Fayston Elementary. Slide Brook doesn't make it to ME; goes under German Flats about halfway to the Warren line. But the other extraction site I think is where the brooks come together by the school. Either way, there is a lot of water on that hillside (as there is at MRG, who has no ponds), and yes, there are no limitations (minimum flow) that I know of, just the depth of the pond.

On my skin laps today on NL I saw multiple sleds with patrol heading down the road to Castle Rock, can’t imagine what they may have been doing over there. Maybe preparing the chair or just skiing it in.

Dumoing again on MRG cams. Tomorrow will be terrific, again.

Hope CR opens, but who knows if the lift has been inspected...

I know first hand when Hurricane Irene breached the snow making pond Sugarbush wanted to add volume by excavating the pond to a deeper depth.
VT is brutal on issuing permits to do this kind of work, they could not get the permit to do so.

While getting my ticket this morning at Jay I overheard The ticket lady saying “Wow! We have had a lot of ikon pass holders today”. Ikon holders were using the get a discounted ticket with a pass from another mountain. The person said back “ya SB offering sucks right now”

Good to see someone here was able to use that Jay deal. Burke has a similar discount all season long. It’s not that far from the Valley.

Thanks for that clarification. It was explained to me as Slide Brook once which never fully made sense geographically to me.

I have vague memories of a professionally printed “our apologies” sign at the bottom of ME in February 2002 which explained that snowmaking had been limited all winter due to a drought. Does anyone else remember this? There’s a chance it was at LP but I’m pretty sure it was ME (or maybe both, who knows).

I remember that sign. I don't have a photo, it was at Mt. Ellen. They Opened 2002-11-24 that season, with a brand new GMX and the Summit lift.
