Why in the world did they wait (or have to wait) until weekend before Christmas to get North Ridge and North Linx inspected?

Was talking with a lady at a coffee shop this morning and I asked her where she was going skiing (she had her ski boots on). She said her husband hit a snow whale at SB and got a little hurt. She was pretty cool about the ordeal.

Yep

I saw people loading the lift, did they have to do an evac?
Just leaving Boston to head up. Was looking fwd to some good LP skiing. Not getting on HG tomorrow. Getting stuck vs today could be dangerous. They need to get their shit together! This a bad look, failing inspection the day before opening the Holiday Season with some of the best early season skiing in a while.

I was on about chair 10. Lift stopped at the bottom of Spills For 45 minutes. Brrrrrr. Positives. Got to ski an untracked paradise. Really good . Got a lift ticket voucher and lunch! Chair is now closed not a good look. Oh Well.
I mean, can they catch a fucking break? Can’t blame this on them, it’s like driving a car off the lot and the check engine light goes off.
How can this be Sbush fault, it’s a brand new lift??
Now the other 2 lifts, inexcusable for sure. Alterra needs to step up here.

I was talking about this in Allyn's lodge today with someone while I was taking a break and warming up. Really bizarre to wait until the last minute unless there was work still being done that prevented them from being inspected earlier. Not a good look either way...

So you're one of the somewhat lucky people that made it on the chair before it broke down. I was warming up in Allyn's waiting for the line to die down as I didn't feel like waiting in the cold before the 9am opening. Then I saw people start leaving the line on the cam after a while and knew it wasn't something that was going to be fixed quickly...

I heard from someone in Allyn's lodge that was waiting in line when HG went down that they thought it could have been a power issue. The DJ's music stopped at the same time the lift did according to what he said. No matter what, not a good start by any means...

Why in the world did they wait (or have to wait) until weekend before Christmas to get North Ridge and North Linx inspected?
I am in Ct having an early Chistmas with my kids or I might have been in the chair behind Hawk🥶. I have no direct knowledge of what has occurred with NR or NL but let me share some perspective. All 16 SB lifts and the two GMVS lifts go through routine summer maintenance that starts the day the resort closes in the Spring. Sometimes major work is needed like rewiring all the towers on NR. New parts needed to be order based on scheduled hours. Parts are usually ordered in early winter, but they may not arrive until late in the summer or even fall. In my years, we were frustrated with the delay by Poma. Vermont is one of the States that has a Tram Authority that inspects every lift in the State before they are cleared to operate for the season. There were 2-3 for the entire State and they come when the resort feels a lift is ready for inspection. The plan is not to have a lift inspected the opening week but sometime that happens and not necessarily controlled by a resort. Lift mechanics especially those with electrical knowledge are in short supply and more so since COVID. Being short even a mechanic or two impacts the summer schedule. Failing an inspection can be for a significant or even a seemingly minor issue. For instance a branch on a tree might be considered to be to close to the chair and need to be cut before the lift is cleared. It can also be something the inspector felt should have been done or was not done to their satisfaction. My point is that it is easy to criticize, but I know that the goal of management and the lift mechanics is to have the lifts ready for the season and hope the inspectors will arrive well before opening day.

Looking at the snow report it is 3. Castlerock was scheduled to be open to hiking but the report show the trails as closed.
I am talking about counting the trails in North Lynx and Heavens Gate (which is now closed for the day) as part of the 90 trails open despite no lift service, way more than 3 trails.

I overheard someone joking in Allyn's lodge that Sugarbush should say they have the "most inaccessible terrain" instead of "most open terrain".

Lots of locals and regulars are not happy from what I'm hearing...

Sugarbush really needs a lot of snow to help people forget about these issues... (and of course they need to get all lifts running and hope for no more surprises there).

First actually informative snow report in a while on their website...

"After delivering a smattering of excited guests to the summit of Lincoln Peak, the highly anticipated Heaven's Gate Quad had to close for maintenance mid-morning. Our lift mechanics and the folks from Doppelmayr are on scene as we speak to address what looks like a hydraulic tension hiccup, which we are hoping to have squared away by tomorrow morning. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through the, unfortunately unavoidable, kinks of opening a brand-new, upper mountain lift. HGQ will be open and loading as soon as humanly possible, even if it means operating at a reduced speed, or with a staggered loading technique. Stay tuned to the snow report for the latest, but as of now, we plan on running Heaven's Gate as scheduled."
