Nowhere now, but everywhere
Looks like I'll be packing skins tomorrow at Ellen.
Does anyone remember when they had the Porsche demo track at M.Ellen? Thinking it ran up Straightshot, then at base of Slidebrook chair, left, down Crackerjack and some loops on Reimergasse. This was on snow when they were open. Maybe a good idea to start doing this again on days like today! Would help ease the pain of Ellen only passholders 😀

Oh geez, the Porsche event. What a long week of "anti-snowmaking" that was! Never experienced anything like that before. We stretched hoses through the woods from SS to Crackerjack and what seems like a short distance during the day feels like a mile at night. It was a loop up half of SS to Slide Brook, then down Crackerjack back to the base. Riemergasse was not involved. Glad I wasn't there during the day that weekend as Ellen was packed due to wind at LP and Porsche had half of the base lodge reserved.

Also, IIRC, due the setup on North Lynx, you can't run both Birch and Sunrise in their entirety. Water goes up one trail and down the other and you have to have a good overflow at the valve house at the bottom. Running both trails wide open with all hydrants (around 40 on each trail) would starve the line. Still you'd think a few guns on Sleeper or HS/Wfall would be possible.

Nice to hear from you Shady. I spoke to one of the guys. They were using some old ratnicks at the top and were air starved so limited to Birch. It looked like it was coming in well so should be moving on to Sunrise, Sleeper and Hot Shot soon. Next ten days look great for snowmaking. Having the Porsche event at ME was my biggest mistake. Bravo went down, and we needed to order a new part which took a few days, so all moved over to ME and the Porsche event required us to close some terrain — it was a mess. Nice idea that turned out badly.

Easier to run at reduced speed then normal speed and have to stop due to wind often.
Understood. Just curious if yesterday was at reduced speed of if that's the normal speed. I hope the former.

Good to see GMX running at full speed and NRX spinning. Fingers crossed

*edit: NRX down at noonish. Oh well

I remember the one on the golf course as well the previous year (I think). Fun stuff.

Re the HG ramp and riders:
Jester, as we know, offers blue intermediate riding and a top-of-the-mountain, long run adventure but the lift defintely takes some experience to get off. Several of the times I've ridden it, the previous chairs had not cleared the area yet (as there's a great view and maybe a sign needed) and others that had headed to OG/Jester had changed their mind and were returning back to Ripcord instead. They were unaware that four people were about to unload right into them and we had to call out for them to move out of the way. The lifties could help here if they're not hanging out in the shack, though perhaps they need to be next to the big red button, which I believe is also outside.

It's not often going to be a problem but the potential is there if the ramp area is not clear. Not so easy to control a snowboard on a steepish descent from a moving chair with only one foot strapped in. I advise more novice riders at the Village Quad to just go straight with most weight on the front leg until they've slowed down enough to brave the turn, usually a heel-side (facing downhill). Additionally, most riders are "regular" left leg forward (easier left turn, heel-side) and about 20% are "goofy" ride right leg forward (easier right turn).

Ultimately, it will be helpful if the ramp angle is eased and if the lifties are encouraging to guests depart the area. Of course, patrol is right there too to pick up the pieces.

I did ride up with one of the lifties who was there on the second day or so when a young girl went around the bullwheel. He told the mom that the daughter would be at the bottom in eight minutes and he wasn't going to reverse the chair to bring her back. I think the gate kill switch has since been moved to prevent this.

So what you're saying is ASC didn't put the appropriate sized pipe in? That's a shocker lol.

You might send a message to operations about this. On really busy days on the village quad, I've been stationed at the top just to make sure that people don't dwaddle in the unloading zone or try to cross back over after choosing a side. Lots of tangled people.

Hope they fire up Stein's and Ripcord in this nice window of consistent 24-hr dry cold..

I would guess Sleeper/Hot Shot are a higher priority than Steins and maybe even Ripcord. Still have Sunrise and Birdland to hit as well.

Meanwhile ME moved onto Cliffs today, so that should put them with not much left to do. Maybe Brambles if they haven't done that yet?

CD, you are correct about ME. Brambles should be the last. Today was my first day at ME, and I was impressed with the amount and the quality of the snow made there. The investments in new pipe above mid-flats, North Star and the new pumps at mid station has made a big difference. Looking up at FIS and the big whales and skiing over the snow at the bottom of FIS, I would guess in a few days it will get groomed out, be awesome that first day and then wait for natural to moguls it up Given the temps in the forecast, I would guess the focus at LP will be first on completing the GH Pod and then moving up to Ripcord and maybe more on Upper Grinder, adding to a few spots, Steins’s and then the extra spring snow for Upper Snowball and Sping Fling. But that is I guess and nothing I have heard officially. It was a great morning of skiing today. And maybe a few more inches over night.

Guns are now running on Cliffs. More issues with North Ridge: https://www.newenglandskiconditions.com/viewreport.php?reportid=3726

I had a good day at Lincoln Peak today but the snow was a bit hit or miss. Considering the rebound from a big mess I guess it’s in good shape. But a lot of … variability out there today. Organgrinder was straight up unfun.
