There are so many other trails and they designate one trail for alpine ski racing. Sunday river does this, Killington does this, Stowe does this, every mountain does this that has a program. It sounds to me that the real issue is that people don't like racing. I have never raced except for the Chez Henri cup but I do respect the hard work and dedication that these kids have. People need chill out.
To me it comes down to the transparency or lack of it, I don't see in there marketing material where they state that area is often closed for racin
They should open Ellen!! ;)

If they are going to open CR then why not open North Lynx?
Ellen should be at least open to skinning, GMVS kids are sure to be hammering everything below GMX. I skied MRG this morning caught the drop of the dbl, knee deep, that is what is sitting up on Ellen just going to waste.

GMVS kids downloaded from Glen House on GMX the past 2 weeks.

Now on Inverness only while Elbow/FIS/RR are set and ready to go for the public once open, or for skinners, if that's allowed now.

Thanks for the update, good to know, different in years past.

I've more than once the past five years said something to guest services at ME, who promise to pass it along. The bar has to be fairly high for me to trudge in there to do so as the results have been underwhelming. I ride ME much more than LP these days so perhaps exposed more.
I'd guess that you'd get better results by trudging up to the GMVS clubhouse rather than into the lodge, particularly if you had a solid description. I don't know the situation there now, but if someone had come in and described irresponsible skiing by a kid (with a reasonable description of both the events and the individual(s)) when I worked there, I would not have wanted to be in that kids shoes that day. The same is true for other programs I've worked for—the folks trying to keep things running smoothly recognize that having kids act like jerks not only reflects poorly on the program, but it also makes it that much harder to ask for favors from the mountain, and they will generally do their best if provided actionable info.

Long past. They have downloaded for at least the last 10 years, give or take, unless Inverness was ready before Elbow in which case they were over there. And if they did go below GH they were on the one route down that Patrol opened and allowed them on. No hammering; just getting down at the end of training, carrying bags and skis, and often to the detriment of the skis they were on.

Snow report this am: Please note: Castlerock runout is very thin and may damage equipment, choose wisely.

Nice and up front. Like the sign at the base of the lift about the CR trails

Personal timing of the Castlerock hike over is subject to many factors. You could be super fit but if for some reason you suck at walking in ski boots you'll be slower. Get stuck behind a slow cluster, you're slow. Not adept at skiing bobsled tracks, uhhh, good luck... Someday I'll go a PR there but usually I'm too compelled to make a piss stop. 😅

But in any case I'm definitely in the camp of I prefer it when the chair is not running...

Time the hike! I'm legitimately curious. Don't race...go at normal pace.
Ha, easier said than done…didn’t you see teleo’s edit? Lots of us are over 60, if we are lucky enough to look at and remember the time at the beginning of any ski hike the odds are not good we’ll also still remember to look at the time once we can head downhill! (but I’m a “just under 20 minute traveler” there, I never got excited heading over if someone in the group said it takes 15 minutes as I like to ski fast but I’m in no rush on my ski hikes)

Re CR - If the LT is tracked and I'm not postholing, sub 20 minutes in snowboard boots for this 65yo.
Our kids arrive Weds and Thurs for the holiday just in time for a 2 day warm up and rain. Hopefully, it will be a base builder and soon back to snow.

I thought of a “Senior moment” example of what I wrote above…I’ve been a Cannon regular lately, Kinsman Glade was cut over 20 years ago and I still have never successfully timed my total trip if the Tram isn’t running and need to get over to the Zoomer Chair. I don’t typically have ski goals but I think I’ll try to remember to how find out how long it takes this season.

So I'm 68, have a knee that needs replacing and have never hiked up to top of Castlerock. Been riding the chair since before they took half the chairs off the line whic is before they replaced the lift so I've skied everything up there and I'm sure I can get down. My question is, would I be ok with the hike up the ridge? If it's just a packed trail I'd be fine with that. But if there's scrambling or tricky bits I dunno... Hopefully it will be open when we get up there.

pretty straight-forward Crank. 20-25 mins depending on # of people going over - but now that the lift is open- well-ppacked unless new snow and couple places you could actually 'ski' for a few hundred yards.

one or two nice vistas on your right - Church and one other area opens up. You'll see plenty of tracks too. Top of Paradise Woods access in 1st 100-200 yards.

Cant' be more than 1/4-/13 of a mile.
