Almost 3pm and still snowing at Killington K-1 Lodge. Here are some shots from Killington via Facebook from today.

Think Snow!

Now 33 degrees and raining at KBL and just about everywhere else, although the snow looked pretty before it changed over.

Looks like the rain has moved out at Killington with maybe a few showers this afternoon perhaps. Looks like tonight won't be cold enough for snowmaking so it all depends on what goes down on Saturday for me.

If they can make some snow Saturday night I'll head up on Sunday, if not then I'll have to wait. This is frustrating as all hell.

I'm awaiting word from one of K's staff. But temps should be improving late today/tonight--dropping freezing levels down through summit level tonight. I could see some summit snowmaking returning tonight and then through the rest of the weekend.

Every forecast I have looked at supports snowmaking tonight at Killington, and throughout the weekend. Where they make snow though is another thing.... They may not do much of any resurfacing and just focus on expansion or maybe resurfacing is a priority... Probably this afternoons snow/trail report will give some clues or Saturday morning it will be known...

Frustrating as hell? Two ski areas are open during the first week of November. Get out there and RIP IT UP! Shit, this is better than last year at this time. No frustration for me, I am skiing two days this weekend regardless of conditions. BRING - IT - ON.

You know what is frustrating? Having a pass and being in a house at one of those mountains, and being stuck at home after shearing off a bolt in a brake caliper last night...

Yes, now I do know what is frustrating. Setting the alarm for 5:30am to go skiing, getting into the car, turning the key in the ignition, and nothing happens. I just need this car to get me through until next summer. It is completely worthless and I just sunk over a grand into an inspection and it still needs new front breaks. And now I need a new battery and can't go skiing today.

On the plus side, today is not a powder day. THAT would have sucked (caps added for emphasis, not emotion  ). And on the plus side, this happened at home instead of at the ski area. Mildly frustrating but at least I am not missing much today.

Oh man, Steve! That's too bad since it's probably the battery and will probably be fixed in half hour, AFTER the stores open.

We have three not-very-new cars in our house. We buy them used and tend to keep them about 10 years. We go through batteries every five years, like clockwork. I've actually set a 5 year reminder in my Outlook calendar for each of the cars. Our batteries knock out in the fall or spring - the transitions seem to the final death blow. Not a lot of warning.

Now the bigger problem is that they are putting batteries in everything - lawnmower, FIOS, thermostats, alarm, the list goes on and keeping track of them is a PITA, and another phantom expense.

Good luck with the car.

It has been five years since the last time I changed the battery. I knew it was getting time. I just wanted to get through to the summer without the expense since I plan on buying a new car. Unfortunately, everything on the car is going at just about the same time so I am making a lot of fixes that will only be needed for 8-9 months. The car is paid off, so it is still cheaper than paying monthly bills and higher insurance. Still kinda a PITA since I won't even get a full year out of any money sunk into the fixes.

You could buy a junk yard battery if you want to save money and don't need it to last long.

I caved and put my wife's snow tires on this morning. I really, really really hope she's right and will be needing them soon!

My new ones are in my KMart basement. I might put the winter rims on the car at Thanksgiving.

Friday at KMart was fun. It was a nice spring surface with a little bit of drizzle when I was out there. Saturday, I got to the K1 at 8:50 and there were a couple of hundred people in line. I skied until 11, walked out, and then drank at the Peak Bar until 1:00. The bar was way better than the death crunch on Rime.

I could have used the snow tires Thursday when I left Killington but only for about 2 or 3 miles. I was also thinking of installing the snows around Tday.
Opening day was great at Killington, Wednesday even better and natural snow falling on Thursday made it almost half a powder day. Then I had to go to work so I left. Awesome opening week at K.

When Sunday River opens this morning, they will be offering T2B skiing and riding. Most people were ducking the rope and doing it yesterday, too. There is NO walking or ski removal required. Lower half of the mountain has not been groomed. Enjoy!
