Tip your liftie folks

This year send it all to those poor snowmaker grunts trudging through. slop on the ice to hookup the guns, get wet, then stay all night to babysit... I'll bet the poor blokes are too cold, tire, frostbit to ski. They are my heros this year...

I tip the Wachusett ski watch attendant a couple bucks whenever I'm there...small price to pay to show their service is appreciated.

As Deadhead said, there is a great deal of praise for tipping. I also have worked in the hospitality world. The more recognition, service, and attention is based on tipping. Tips do not only have to be monetary. If you see them in the bar buy them a beer, always tip those who tune your skis. That is huge. I had my boots blown out and some major inside work done for a 12 pack of long trail, I bought a $40 pair of soles and he said the beer was for the work. The little things count and they remember you that way. I try to take care of those who do provide me with services. For example I was in Stowe for thanksgiving and bought my xmas tree up there A. because it is cheaper and B. much better quality, after we picked it out, etc... the guy working there busted his butt getting it bound and on the car. Although I would do those type things for my self, I gave him $10 for helping. He was siked about it. The little things are what matters.

Yes it is there job to be there and provide services, but I can tell you from experience the pay is not great what so ever. Lifties, snowmakers, and many other industry folk are only making about 10-12/hour. I have friends in college who blew snow at Smuggs for
$10/hour, can you imagine facing those elements for $100/day?

Hello - 'tip your lifties' = figure of speach. I was hardly suggesting to actually tip your liftie.

and not to get politcal, but you started it, I disagree with you whole heartedly that the american 'tip' system is bad compared to other parts of the world. It creates better service, not worse - allows the individual as an entrepenuer to create value for themselves - not big business determing an approprieate hourly wage. Your work ethic arguement is bunk. I don't care what the occupation is, you give someone the ability to creat more value/compensation for themselves on their own terms (not the employer's) over and beyond their salary - they will work MUCH harder.

ASC must be feeling the crunch though, they're now offering 39 dollar lift tix at any of their resorts when you show your season passfrom any other resort.

Your topic title sort of throws me off... do people actually tip liftees? Never heard of it, nor seen it.

And here I was thinking I was one cheap bastard, then it occured to me..

No way in HELL I wanna make the line any slower trying to get money out of meh pocket while wearing mitten/gloves.
