I took a patient the other night. Both he and his wife served in WWII. You talk with some of these folks and it does't take long to understand why they're called "The greatest Generation."

I say that, and I in no way want to take anything away from those who have searved our country since (or are currently). It really comes down to the enormous numbers that willingly made sacrefices for freedom around the world durring that period.:flag:

My wife and I made the trip to the memorial and I never felt so sad with the exception of visiting Buchenwald.

I like the way Pearl Harbor is set up now (and probably has been for some time) wih the Arizona memorial and the USS Missouri just a bit further down the shore of Ford Island. Alpha/Omega of the war.

I was in a local Walmart recently and saw this elderly gentleman "greeting" shopers.

He had a cap on his head with an "interesting" set of Jump Wings (paratrooper medal). I've seen Jump-Master wings...but these were different. So I asked if they were "combat" jump wings. Bingo!

THis guy jumped into Normandy! His name is Gerry. Sharp as a tack! We chatted about the invasion recently...great stories. I shake his hand every time I see him at Walmart and thank him.

Great thread Hawk!

Days/Infamy

My wife and I have sworn off visiting war memorials. After visiting the "Pearl Harbor Memorial" (her father's buddies), after "The Vietnam Wall' (my buddies) and after walking around the Gettysburg Battlefield (too many son's from both the North and South), we have decided that they embody too much pain for too many people. Now I am faced with having one of my own sons doing a tour in Afghanistan. I don't even want to think about the possibilities.
