We did local strawberry picking here last weekend. Got 5-6 quarts. Been doing pancakes/shortcake/crepes all week.

We picked up 15 quarts at our local Amish Farms over the past several weeks . Did our strawberry preserves for the entire year , having strawberry shortcake daily now and froze several 'Strawberry/yogurt Thing" FROZEN dessert sheet cakes for the WINTAH season !

BUT STILL WANT BB NOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have rabbit eye (low bush) and thumb nail size high bush growing down back. One of these will cut the "picking" down to a few minutes. Then we "winnow" them to remove the leaves and twigs. Float them in a bucket of water to remove the immature fruit and wash them.
Some years the field and fringe produce so many we have to feed them to the juice maker and even dehydrated them for long term storage.
The frozen ones are great for pancakes , etc...

I got this one from my father-in-law in Sweden, but that's good for wild berries, the ones we picked were on a farm, different variety.

...packing for a cooler camping trip next week, chillin' with the girls, and hopefully riding with the boys if the weather holds out.

Tommorrow, I'll be here

speedway.jpg

with over 100,000 other folks watching 43 Sprint Cup Cars weather permiting race 301 miles! Of course there will be some serious tailgating before the race. The food is bought, the cooler already packed and the car loaded. The menu will have 8 2lb lobsters, an 8lb tenderloin cut into roughly 1.5" thick steaks, freshly made on site clam cakes, corn on the cob, strawberry-rhubarb pie, and of course lots of colt frosty beverages

To pull all of this off, it requires 6 people, 2 large SUV's, 3 tanks of propane, a dual burner camp stove, a single burner "turkey fryer" stove, a portable coleman gas grill, 2 easy up tents, 2 portable tables, 6 chairs, atleast 3 large coolers of food and beverages(that's how many are already in my car and I'd bet that there's an equal amount in the other car!) and by the time it's all said and done close to 100lbs of ice. Let's just say that we've done this before and few times and definately aren't "amateur" tailgaters! ;)

I want to tailgate with you in September .. PLEASE ..

We'll see what can be arrranged ;)

I will say that the new owners of NHMS, Speedway Motor Sports did make some nice and noticeable changes. "Disney Style" tram to ride in from the out parking lots on were a plus, but I was made that they started to take out the troughs from the guys rooms and replace them with individual urinals   I'm mean it's NASCAR we need our troughs!

...The Best diner for blueberry pancakes...

On the western outskirts of Bethel, Maine along Rte #2, lefthand side, next to RiteAid store...across road from where Rte. #26 joins up with #2...~couple miles SW of SR Access Road... *I forgot the Diner's name!$%*$;-)...but they literally fill their pancakes with wild blueberries.... One of the reasons I show up occasionally at the River...
...almost forgot..BobR's hikes!!! ..#2 reason..;-)

Tomorrow I will be........,
dialing into a system for a little while.....Thursday's the down day for weather up here. Friday....sunny!...paddling....maybe with a little hiking...
