Well I learned one thing this week about powder. Having some fat skis really makes a difference. Sounds obviouse but I bet a lot of people, me included, don't own them. They can be murder on frozen hardpack though. Targhee had great soft powder and no ice at all. Demo'd a pair of Bandit B3's and some Fishers. Jackson had pow over ice and hardpack. My regular skinny skis worked fine in it. Hell of a workout though.Just have to figure out which ones I want to buy.

dmc explained it well. dude, what are you talking about not driving up here if the snow isn't west coast like?! the untracked is gone any ways, but the snow is of the highest quality i have skied in a long time once it has been packed down. the thing with blower powder is that type of snow doesn't last many runs. this snow quality is excellent when packed down, sweet silence when you turn... except for the hooting and hollering.

I was skiing untracked in Valhalla today. I must say I was skeptical at first of everyone saying the snow was dense, but you guys were right. That stuff was DENSE.

Foot of perfect pow for us. You just have to know how the wind hits the mtn. Exposed stuff was wind buffed, but trees and gullys were sweet. Extremely high quality snow. AWESOME to ski. So powerful. Untracked snow top to bottom today, twice! Even got into some steep drainages and went for a little ride trying to cross my sluff. Last few days have been so sick they're epidemic.
