dmc what would you recomend for my first ever trip to tux

I recommend you put your skis or board on your pack - fill the pack with some extra stuff - like food, water, rain gear, a camera, extra socks... etc...

Head to Pinkham Notch as early as possible...
Hike to the bowl and ask the Rangers and caretakers questions...

Enjoy!

do u put ur boots on the skis or in the bag, because if i put them in the bag there wont be to much room left, but in the skis may be a pain?

put them in the skis unless you have a bag built for hauling boots or you don't have much other gear. boots in the skis isn't much of a pain, it's trying to avoid kicking the ends of your skis that is a pain  i did hillman's my first time up there. while not in the bowl proper, it's one of the less steep routes and has a longer vertical drop. what you do really depends upon conditions though, two weekends ago it was really wet and the rangers were advising against the right gullies. check in with the rangers, scope out the avi reports, and then make a decision based on conditions.

...with the weight of boots, I've often try to synch em' very securely on top of my pack....with some help from the skis. It takes some planning & tying, but above the shoulders has worked out for me in the past as a place for heavy stuff....IF your pack is rock solid...laterally. May not be THE place, technically...for those with lots of pack experience here....but it has been working without any problems so far.

These guys are hiking in their tele boots above the bowl area...
To hike up the trail to the bowl - attatch your skis on your pack like the picture shows and put your boots into the bindings.. use hiking boots to hike in...

I'd make up my mind at Hojos.. You got a good view of Hillmans and you can ask Seth the caretaker whats good..

If the weathers good... It's all good... Just got to beware of falling ice on the right side of the bowl above the Lunch Rocks... And crevasses on the right headwall... And deep runnels(trenches) caused by flowing slough. :)
